Stories Through the Seasons

Rate this book
A collection of 12 stories: one for every month of the year.

A New Life – "Faithful is He that promised." Mary Louise McKinley clings to that promise as January brings the start of a new life to her.

Forget Not – Kevin and Carlee are at odds. Something is wrong between them. Will their day together be spoiled, or can an elderly friend's accident save the day?

Winter is Past – Cloudy, dreary day. Will spring ever come? Mrs. Wilkinson and her granddaughter find spring in a basket of daffodils. But what will they do with them?

Happy Day – Rinnah and her daddy have always done just fine alone together. Then a new friend enters their life, and Rinnah begins to make some important discoveries. Join young Rinnah as she records in her diary the events leading up to the happiest day of her life.

Even the Beasts – When Harold Manning's trip to town is delayed because of a mountain lion's visit, he and his wife must trust that all things–even beasts–were meant to praise the Lord.

His Mighty Acts – With the second World War still raging, Mrs. Lydia Newham plans to spend her anniversary alone. But her son, James, has other plans. So does someone higher up.

Honor All Men – Devin Moreland doesn't smile. Why should he when his home has been vandalized? Things change, however, when Sergeant Sinclair steps in with a 4th of July celebration to remember.

The Way to Go – On his mother's advice, Hugh joins a hiking trip into the mountains. Seeking direction for his life, he has no idea how the trip could possibly show him the way to go.

Faithful – When young Bobby Nicholson's new puppy lives up to his name, it causes quite a stir in their little country church–in more ways than one!

Give Attendance – Harvey wasn't interested in books and didn't read anymore, so inheriting a library from his great uncle was definitely not a dream come true. His only desire was to get rid of it quickly–until a rainy afternoon exploring his uncle's apartment made him reconsider.

Heritage of Praise – With the loss of her mother just before Thanksgiving, Marilyn feels anything but in a grateful mood. But a visit to Grandma's attic brings to life a tradition long forgotten. Will this be enough to turn tears into praise?

Unto Him – When 10-year-old Richard discovers a family has moved into the empty house in the neighborhood, he is excited. Especially when he meets Jon and Jack. But something seems wrong. Is there anything Richard can do tho help make Christmas special for his new friends?

Rebekah A. Morris has lived her entire life (as of now) in Missouri. Being home educated during her school years was great, except for writing. That was the worst subject (along with math) that she had to do. It wasn't until after she graduated that she discovered the joys and wonder of writing. Now she can't write enough. After spending six years in research and writing, she completed her first book, "Home Fires of the Great War," a 500+ page, historical fiction about home life in the United States and Canada during the First World War. Since then, she has been an avid writer and always has more than one story going on at once because only one story at a time got tiring and dull.

Age Appropriate For: All Ages
Best for Ages: All Ages
When thinking of a word to describe Rebekah’s books, I think the best one would be gentle. While there is action in some, heartbreak in another, and lessons to be learned in yet another, none of them are gritty, none of them are scary, and none of them are hard to read. Her stories, while not always happy, are the kind that young and old can enjoy together.
This is a collection of short stories she wrote, one for each month of the year. I listened to them all in a few days, but I think it would be a lot of fun to listen to one each month.
Some of the stories were better than others. Here is my list from the ones I loved the most to the least:
Winter is Past ~ I just loved this sweet story.
Honor All Men ~ This is a Veteran’s Day story and it was so good.
Happy Day ~ This was such a sweet story about a little girl getting a mother.
Heritage of Praise ~ This Thanksgiving story was sweet with a good lesson
Unto Him ~ This was s sweet Christmas story about helping others.
His Mighty Acts ~ This was really sweet and I loved the historical aspect.
Faithful ~ This story had me laughing.
Give Attendance ~ I liked the story but I found it sad that anyone wouldn’t want a library.
Even the Beasts ~ I found this one interesting.
The Way to Go ~ This story was okay.
A New Life ~ I had trouble following this story. Maybe it was just me.
Forget Not ~ This story bothered me. It seemed to make light of very real issues.
As for the narrator, I feel like she did a great job giving people different voices. I would listen to more narrated by her.

4 stars total. These are good, fun stories that I really enjoyed.

A New Life
3 stars. This was a nice read. At first I was a little worried at the direction it was taking, but it remained 100% clean, which is one of the reasons why I love Rebekah Morris. I enjoyed the vintagy setting and the drama, of course. :D And the whole “faithful is He” theme—I loved it!!

Forget Not
3 stars. This was a cute little story. Kevin was a dear, and Miss Retter was awesome. The whole story was so perfect and realistic, I could see it all plainly in my head.

Winter is Past
4 stars. Rebekah Morris seldom fails to paint her setting so well that I am sucked into it. I loved this little story’s cheer and saw it all plainly in my head. The flowers and the officer were my favourite parts, of course. 😉

Happy Day
3.5 stars. This was a very cute little story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. <3 I loved Rinnah’s name! And her Daddy was a darling. <3

Even the Beasts
3 stars. I enjoyed the appearance of Scat, and the pioneer lifestyle was pleasant to read about. I was a little confused by the conclusion though... But the descriptions were lovely, as usual.

His Mighty Acts
3 stars. This was a nice little story, old-timey and sweet. James and his mother had a really sweet relationship, and I would have liked to see more of Michael! The ending wasn’t quite what I expected and I was a little confused how it came about, but I really liked the theme of “one generation shall tell to another of the Lord’s mighty acts.”

Honor All Men
4 stars. I was very much looking forwards to this story and I was not disappointed. It had a good lesson, and I liked the characters quite a bit ;)

The Way to Go
4 stars. This is my favourite Monthly Short Story so far! I loved Hugh, especially towards the end. The message was very good.

Faithful
3 stars. This was a cute little story with a good moral. :) We all need to be as faithful!

Give Attendance
3 stars. This was a fun, interesting read. I quite envied Harvey his library!! That’s a bibliophile’s dreams. ;)

Heritage of Praise
4 stars. What an excellent tradition this story suggests! I really enjoyed reading this story; it was very sweet and real.

Unto Him
4 stars. Awww, what a sweet story. I really enjoyed it. The ten-year-old boy POV was perfect. And oh, I loved the lesson!!!

A Favourite Quote: “Those were dark days, days it was hard to trust the promises of my heavenly Father, difficult to remember that He is faithful that promised; but He is faithful even when I doubt and my faith grows dim.”
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “‘Top box has blankets and pillows?’ He looked up from reading the label, puzzled. ‘I don’t remember any blankets or pillows at Thanksgiving.’
“Marilyn nudged him aside and looked at the label. ‘That says baskets and pilgrims.’”

These twelve touching short stories written by Rebekah A. Morris and read by Andrea Rossignol were an interesting listen. The narrator did a nice job with different character voices. The various stories were touching and often had patriotic themes. The stories involved lessons of faith. I was given a copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.
