James is a twenty-nine-year-old stuck in an older man’s body. He loves to paddle his canoe, shoot his handmade longbows in the woods, make knives, study martial arts, and generally enjoys challenging himself. When not teaching or writing about the real past, he is imagining worlds and histories that might have been, should have been, or may yet be.
James has two homes (though only one house)--the mountains of Idaho and the forests of New England--where he canoes, hikes, camps, rock climbs, and shoots the longbows he makes himself. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife.
James is a professional historian whose published works include two histories of the Inquisition, a documentary history of Columbus's first voyage, a transcription of a colonial era account book from Weymouth, Massachusetts, and a global history of piracy. This means that he is a professional teller of stories, both real and imagined.
James's favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien, though he will never be able to watch the Peter Jackson Hobbit films again. The first viewing nearly gave him a fit. He loves The Giver and The Book Thief. He has read all the Hunger Games novels, but thinks Katniss should have ended up with Gale. (Sorry Peeta fans.) He enjoys Harry Potter and thinks magic should be real--so long as he owns the Elder Wand.
This book was not very captivating it started out will enough but when the main characters finally accomplished their mission on the people who killed his parents and kidnap his beloved sister .The gets angry at her brother for not coming sooner because they were treated so badly but the brother has the bad guy but she won't let her brother kill him that's when everything went south really quick for me as a reader these scumbags killed his parents his father only had one arm and they killed him like a dog no quarter or mercy but the sister wanted to hook up or I don't know I could not get pass these stupid situations that didn't make any sense ! I can't stand crazy unrealistic situations that I don't know what the Hell the author was thinking but maybe you might like as for me it was a wasted opportunity for finding a good book I will keep on looking God bless and please have a great day !!
I enjoyed this set of books, because all of the main characters are likeable and desire to be the best that they can be. They are human with flaws making them relatable. The fighting could have been gory and graphic, but the author left the gore out. My mind thanks you. There is no swearing which I applaud the author for. The adventure and intrigue took me to another place and time. A great escape.
This series is on par with John flannigan ranger apprentice series. I love when characters put in the hard work to become something great. I like magic related books mainly but this series has rekindled my desire for great plots with strong non magical characters. Great read and great series can’t wait for the next book.
Well written with great excitement and intrigue along with romance and family under trying circumstances . Read the whole series to follow the rise and fall of kingdoms.
This was an interesting action packed story with lots of twists and turns. It portrays the tricky relationship between royalty, nobles and peasants. Many of the situations the characters end up in are based on real life historical events.
A bit confusing at times but well worth persevering with. Some great twists and turns. I have really enjoyed the first three books. Now onto the fourth. Thank you.
