When I saw this book being offered as a giveaway, I immediately signed up for it. There is something about Christmas and children’s stories that grabs my attention right away. I guess it brings me back to that magical feeling of Christmas when I was young. It also brings a certain warmth and joy. This book is full of attractive illustrations that capture the mood for Christmas. It is also simple enough to be understood by kids. It blends tradition and magic to trigger their interest and imagination.

I received a Mobi.file copy of this book from the author through a giveaway she had on LibraryThing, and the following is my honest opinion.

The moment my inner-child began reading this book, it immediately thought of Christmas and the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, especially when it mentioned the stockings being hung with care, in the hopes that St. Nicholas will soon be there.

Shelly, remembering she had no stocking to leave for Santa so he can fill in with all sorts of candy and other goodies, she began to make her own; and leaves it hanging by her window, Like all children, wanting to see him, Shelly tries to stay up but as expected falls asleep.

This is a marvelous enchanting book for its young readers, it’s filled with the magic and spirit of Christmas, especially that of sharing; and with the stocking becoming alive and going off on a journey hoping to get itself filled and then returning home before Shelly would get up Christmas morning.

Does the stocking get itself filled? Is the stocking able to find its way back home after flying and traveling all over town? Who does it meet so it can get the instructions to go back to Shelly from?

Being July, it’s hazy, hot and humid outside; reading a Christmas book at this time makes you wish it was December with the holiday quickly approaching. The rhyming in this book captures and holds the young reader’s interest; just as it did for me when I was a young child reading the poem I mentioned at the beginning of my review.

For creating the Christmas spirit for her readers now, both young and old, I’m happy to give the author, Anitha Rathod, the 5 STAR rating she’s gotten from this reviewer and my inner-child.

"Shelly's Stocking Goes Missing" by Anitha Rathod is a wonderful book to read to children for the Christmas holidays. It's about a little girl named Shelly who is very good with her hands and who tries to make a stocking from an old bag. Sometimes, however, unexpected things happen. Isn't it what we all experience in life? Just when we think we have accomplished a task, something happens that make us feel a though everything we have ever done was for nothing.

It's the same way with this story. No matter how good Shelly was at making a stocking, the stocking suddenly flies away. The stocking is lost just at the time she's needed! And here starts the adventure in the book. Will Shelly ever find her missing stocking? How would her Christmas be after losing something she worked so hard for?

This book is something I can read to my grandchildren before bedtime. It will teach them the value of hard work. It will ignite their minds about creating things other than those that involve gadgets and computers. It will also bring to mind the feeling of Christmas.

It can also start a conversation about the things we eventually seem to lose. Is there no hope for those things that have been taken away from us? Here, we can inculcate values for children to ponder.

This book is highly recommended for parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren who want to share something fun for the holidays. The attractive illustrations will certainly catch the attention of the young ones, while the story itself can be avenues for adults to teach kids some lessons in life.

There is hustle/bustle in the streets last minute Christmas shopping.
Shelly plan’s on designing/making a Christmas stocking.
You ever wonder how the Christmas stocking gets filled?
Now Shelly is going to wait up & meet Santa Claus.

What happens next?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s Christmas adventure story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s Christmas adventure movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Shelly's Stocking Goes Missing is a very simple and pleasant story of how Shelly makes a stocking for Christmas hoping to receive her present in it. The story is very simple and narrated in poetry form. The author show the reader that Shelly is resourceful and creative as she figures out how to convert a shopping bag into a stocking and decorate it. The pictures are well done and will ensure that children are drawn in to the story. It is quite an enjoyable read for little kids!

My version of this Kindle was so badly represented that you could hardly read it and seemed that there were pages missing but the one reviewer had the story in it --- and I enjoyed it and if the pictures were bigger and you could see them, would be a great read! Even at full screen, the book wasn’t all there and pictures were way too tiny!

Could be better

The pictures are very pretty, however, most if the rhymes do not make sense.

Sometimes it rhymes, others it doesn't, with no clear consistent meter throughout, which was disappointing.

Unique

There are so many Christmas stories out there. I have never heard of one, like this one, that talks about and animates the classic Christmas stocking. Fun and unique idea!
