Remarkable book! Using the construct of witchcraft — which has condemned women for centuries — David Cain celebrates female power while he bows at the alter of a lifelong love affair. His writing flows and morphs as the story matures with the main character. Cain makes us question what power is, and how love changes that power. The irony is how many men have seen the same thing through the ages, but responded with fear and violence. Witch is a must read for any woman who has hidden her powers to appease society.
A truly delightful book about a man who is bewitched heart and soul to a powerful wonderful woman. It is book that details the thoughts of man trying to understand the complexities of his love for his truly remarkable wife. Cain dives into the psyche of a man in love baffled at how extraordinary his wife truly is. The narrator takes us through his own witch hunt, where he tries to uncover the supernatural nature of his wife. As he uncovers her mysterious wonder, he seems to fall deeper and deeper in love. He never burns his wife at the stake, but is simply in awe of her.
Witch is the simple tale about the life of a man who loves a remarkable woman. It is Cain's love letter to every strong woman and the partners who stand beside them.
This is one of those books which can be analysed from two sides. It totally depends on the readers. If they like the narrator then it would be one way of reading, if not then that would be another.
Irrespective of how the readers choose to see the narrator one thing is glaringly clear, he loves his wife, utterly, impossibly and completely. There is no denying this fact.
He thinks his wife is a witch and to him it is not even a question, it is a fact. Yet he accepts her, he accepts her with all those qualities that makes her well...her.
In the beginning of the story it could be felt that he lacks confidence, has low self-esteem and overall lacks any form of cunning to succeed in today's world. One would even go as far as to say that he is quite naïve. He constantly undervalues himself and puts himself down, which can be a reason for his lack of success.
If one only reads the book and skips the epilogue it would occur to them that maybe this person is slightly on the loony side.
Which is quite normal among creative people. Most artists tend to be a bit different than ordinary folks. It maybe that he is too much of an artist with a very vivid imagination, that would certainly justify many of his narratives. His brain is capable if producing such superb level of imagery that he mistakes those for supernatural phenomenon or 'witchiness'. He is in fact falls among those crazy or closeted artistic geniuses. Every person that he comes in contact with regarding his wife seems like a witch to him.
I got the book because I grew up with the author. I read and enjoyed the book because it was really easy to keep in my head while I wasn’t reading. I don’t have a lot of time to read, others would be drawn to sit down and read this straight through, so since I had to come back to it, it was so East to pick up and continue each time. Thank you David, I loved this part of your creations.
Interesting book. This novel features one photographer, and the story begins with his encounter with a model who he thinks has a magical power. I think the author tells us about woman's special power which every woman has for their loved one. This is a funny and heartwarming story. I like Epilogue, which I believe is the most important part in this novel. This part adds depth to the work.
