Contention City to Stalingrad: Along Borders and Frontiers

Rate this book
Borders and frontiers seem interchangeable but in fact they are separate entities. In Contention City To Stalingrad the author explores both physical borders in some less visited parts of the world from South Lebanon to the North West Frontier of Pakistan and frontiers at home both cultural and economic. The book takes the reader from the Canal Zone in Panama to Britain’s oldest Rugby League stadium, from hunting with fell hounds high in the Lake District to some of the last truly amateur Bull Running in Pamplona and Bore Surfing on the Severn. William Hartley is a former soldier, author and freelance writer. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society a Chartered Geographer and Fellow of the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers.

Quirky Insights From An Enigmatic Bucket List

Off the beaten track doesn’t quite capture the places and pastimes experienced by the Author - He takes us from Pamplona Bull Running to the shootout that helped populate wild west cemeteries in Arizona via the bloodiest battle of any war in Stalingrad, and several observations from gritty regions of Northern England. All experienced first hand by the author who brings to life his fascination for out of the way places and passion for unconventional pursuits.
