Maryhelen Clague is a Florida native whose Great-Grandparents settled in Central Florida in 1876. She grew up in the Lakeland/Tampa area, attended Florida State University's Music School, then Union Theological Seminary in New York City. After her husband, an Episcopal clergyman, retired their family moved back to her Florida home where she resides today.
For those who are curious about the way historial romance used to be, So Wondrous Free is an excellent introduction. Set in and around Westchester County, NY during the American Revolution, this is the story of Nabby Colson, who traveled to the colonies with her beloved husband, only to find a life she absolutely never expected. Now widowed, Nabby must serve out her indenture alone, protect herself from a predatory master, and choose between two equally compelling suitors, one Loyalistm one Patriot. Oh, and survive a war. No biggie.
As a former Westchester native, I can attest that Ms. Clague did her research on both the location and era, and her deft hand at showing the good and bad of people on both sides of the conflict will satisfy historical fiction fans who are curious about stories where the history and romance affect each other.
