With three decades of comic art behind Frank Quitely, Drawings + Sketches selects work from Jupiter's Legacy, Jupiter's Circle, WE3, Pax Americana and more offering insights into the stories and processes behind them. Comics were invented in Glasgow. It is fitting then that Glasgow should be home to Frank Quitely, known worldwide for drawing Batman, Superman and X-Men. If you're a writer, you want to work with him; if you're an artist you admire his draughtsmanship and signature if you're a fan you'll queue for hours to meet him at a comic convention and add his signature to your prized comic collection.
Working with Grant Morrison seems like a pain in the arse but at least there's something to talk about. Working with Mark Millar, meanwhile, seems like a good paycheck.
Reading this book, I was mostly just wondering why it wasn't as big as my torso. Quietly is one of our best working artists. One can never look at his work too closely.
I picked this up from the library today on the off chance that I’d enjoy it. I loved it. As someone who is trying to improve my art and get some more insight into how people draw, this was excellent.
I’m not usually into comics per se but I read this and looked at the art in one sitting. I keep wanting to look at more of the pencil sketches! Great book, would recommend.
