A stand-up comic, a dwarf and a drag queen walk into a bar. No, it’s not a joke, but by the time this is all over, Joe Coffin will wish it was.
The vampire threat is spreading, and with it a new menace; bats. Along with the vampires they attack anyone foolish enough to be outside after dark. But Joe Coffin doesn’t have time to think about that, he’s too busy staying alive. It seems more than one person wants him dead, but when Joe gets news of some easy money to be made he sees a way out. The problem is, teaming up with failed stand-up comic Jim Gosling and his crew (a dwarf called Stilts and a drag queen called Duchess Swallows) might just be the death of him. Especially when the woman they are robbing is, according to local legend, a witch.
This might be Joe Coffin’s most bizarre adventure yet.

Ken Preston is the author of the Joe Coffin series of books, best described as gangsters versus vampires in Birmingham UK. He is also the author of zombie/cowboy mash-up Population:DEAD!, Satan meets Blackbeard pirate novel, The Devil and Edward Teach, and Speaking in Tongues, a short story about death, sex, rock n roll and God. He has also had several short stories published in magazines and anthologies, and writes romance under the name of MJ Jackson. Ken is also a creative writing teacher for children in years 5 and 6 and also children in years 7 to12, as well as adults. He spends far too much time in his cellar, making stuff up, whilst his two cats prowl over his desk and computer keyboard, adding their own little additions to his stories. Ken lives just a few doors down from the house where Jack the Ripper was born. (Allegedly.) If you have read any of his books, or even if you haven’t, but just want a chat, Ken can be reached at kenpreston@kenpreston.co.uk
i was very lucky to be picked as preview reader on this book and really excited too because I've now read all four seasons. i can honestly say that i wasn't disappointed at all and was gripped from the start until the end just like all previous joe coffin stories. I'm not going go into the actual storyline as i feel that when that's done its like too much of a spoiler so i'm just going to promote this book with all the warmth and love from an avid reader of most types of books but mainly Vampire and horror. The only difference is with the joe coffin books you get a lot of gangster thugs with it. They don't know what's hit them. i hope that everyone who has already enjoyed joe coffin and his crew from previously will enjoy this book just as much and its not the end I'm sure though that's down to Ken Preston. I was going to say get stuck in but get suck in sounds more appropriate.
This is probably one of my favorite books yet this year!!! I bought it as soon as it came out, but held on to it knowing I would get through it and want more. However, I got to a point that I just could not wait any longer and decided to go ahead and read it. OMG, this book was so good! There is plenty of action and thrills for any taste! I just LOVE Joe Coffin he is my new anti-hero, hero! I just want the next book to come out NOW because this book is so good. I just have to know what comes next! The characters in this book are very well written and realized. The scenery is awesomely rich and tantalizing. This isn't just a vampire book it is a book for anyone that loves a good brawl and characters you really want to see win. This morsel just makes you hungry for more! Well done
How I've missed Joe Coffin and in this book so do many others.....lol. Joe's life has definitely not improved since we last read about him in the third book of this series, in fact , it has gotten worse. Joe is a gangster, killer and thug but damn I love the guy
I so love these books. I do hope there’s going to be more in the future! This season introduces more characters to the story. And builds more on the vampire lore of Joe Coffin’s world. Add in a story arc involving a comedic gangster and his cronies and you’ve got yourself another great book! Those guys are hilarious if not a little unhinged! If you’ve not already started this series of books then you should!!
Can Joe Coffins life get any worse? Now head of the Slaughterhouse Gang, he just doesn't have the heart for it though. The gang just isn't what it used to be and Joe really doesn't seem to care much. Drinking heavily and with more people out to get him he needs to get his head sorted or he knows he's not going to survive.
Joe only really seems to have one emotion, anger. But who can really blame him? This series just keeps getting better and better with each successive book 😊.
I read an advanced version of this season - but I am impressed enough that I have also purchased the finished book.
The previous book ended with a satisfactory 'season finale' but there were enough plot threads left to continue. Here the status quo is (briefly) restored - the Slaughterhouse Mob is under new leadership and has retaken the Angellicit Club. However, after a short excursion to Scotland to tidy up some unfinished business Joe returns to Birmingham... And the mayhem resumes.
The surviving members of the Mob are faced with a resurgence of the vampires, a few of whom remained in circulation at the end of Season Three. Stump and Corpse made the mistake of keeping Chitrita, the revived Old One, around - and she has the traditional affinity for bats, as referenced on the cover. Coffin is still hopeful that he might reclaim his son Michael who escapes with his former wife, the turned Steffanie. A number of other familiar names return, though not all are completely dead - and another group of grotesques appear, forcing Coffin into a reluctant partnership.
A glorious continuation of this series - long may it continue.
Oh Joe Coffin how I’ve missed you, my favorite vampire slayer. Along with Joe you’ll see some familiar characters and also be introduced to some new ones! Some you’ll like and some you’ll cringe over. This book was intense, bloody, and packed full with vampires and bad dudes, did I say bloody!! Ken Preston knows how to create a character that pulls strong emotions from you. If you haven’t started the series yet, do it!
Well this is a different take on the vampire/thriller type books, and I have to say I liked this a lot. Anyone who has read my reviews will know that I like urban fantasy and thrillers and this is a very good combination of the two. Highly recommended.
I just love theses books. Joe Coffin has to be the most likeable (even loveable) gangster of all time. I really think if he could get rid of the crazy and some down right funny gangsters around him, and then all of the vampires, I think Joe could turn into a pretty nice guy. Depending on how long the series goes, he could be an informant help clean up Birmingham. Well, maybe I am taking it too far but there are are still many different groups of mobs out there that the citizens could do without. I won’t name them, but there are a couple of other people that I sure wouldn’t cry if they were gone. I love Emma and I would like for she and Joe to make peace, but I would really like to see her with Nick. We get new characters and most of them need to be exterminated (isn’t that what you do to bats?) so the same should be done to vampires. They have used states to the heart, chainsaws to cut them up, but eons ago when I was a teenager I thought a silver bullet to heart or head could kill them) I really think is the best one yet and I really Loved Season 3. There are so many ways Ken Preston could go with Season 5 and if needed Season 6. I still these should be made into a series like on Netflix or any one of the many out there as long as Ken Preston had final say. The books have been so good I wouldn’t want the series to take away from them. I orginaaly said a movie but too many good sciences would have to be cut for a movie. Even if you don’t think you would like this genre and haven’t even read Season One, you really need to give it a try. I wasn’t sure when I got the first one if I would like it or not but I am so glad I did. I think my comparison from thes books to a series would be The Walking Dead = T-Ball and Joe Coffin Books = Major Leagues ( not sure of an international comparison but this works perfect for me in the US). Keep up the GREAT WORK Ken Preston.
This is a duplicate review to the one I did for volume 2-3. Because I read them all back to back. Please see volume 1 for my initial review of that book as standalone.
I could not put the books down. I received the first book for free in exchange for an honest review, and purchased volumes 2-4 immediately upon finishing volume 1.
The characters were diverse, the vampire mythology didn’t suck (pun intended), and the stories were well developed and intertwined. I needed to keep reading because I needed to know what was going to happen next. In fact, I finished all the books in about three days.
As for the story: there is the mob, reporters, vampires, police, the usual suspects, how they interact is what sets this story arc apart. Relationships ebb and flow, grow and end. Everyone is flawed, but not fatally. Or at least not always! It wasn’t unusual for me to love and hate the same character at different parts.
The vampire lore was not glamorous, but neither did I find it over the top gory. There were horror elements, but mostly the story was suspenseful, which I enjoyed immensely.
I absolutely love this series so far! I am always excited to read more in this series! I feel like I cannot get enough to read! I love learning more about the vampires and Joe Coffin's story. I mean, how is Coffin still alive after all he has been through? Ugh! I can't get enough of these books! I am looking forward to read the final two books (I have already purchased the remaining books in this series!)! I just love how different this series is compared to other vampire novels I have read.
Joe Coffin's story gets me more invested with each episode. He's a bad guy you hate to love but in his world he's the best of them and you just can't help it! Can't wait to dive into the next chapter but I think I'll check out another story by Ken Preston first. I want to see what else is brewing in his twisted mind. Loving it Ken!
I read book 4 in a group along with the 2 part Final Chapters.
How the hecking hell does Ken Preston manage to keep pulling these incredible books out of himself??
The supersonic momentum carries forward from book to book. There's no time to catch your breath and you can't turn the page fast enough to find out what happens next.... You're on the Concord of book journeys - ENJOY weeeeee! 😄
Pulse pounding action. High octane tension. Or wonders how can keep going with all that has happened to them. Each book is better than the last. Sadly the next episode hasn't been finished. So hard to wait!
And the story keeps on going...but not in a bad way. The new characters are a blast and keep things fresh. Joe has got his work cut out for him here- as well as the vamps, he has others who would love to see him in a Coffin.
Every Joe Coffin book I read takes me less and less time. I read this one in a day! The most exciting, action packed series I’ve ever read, and I can’t wait to read the next book! I wish there were more of them!!
I rated 5 because i loved every one of the Joe Coffin series. Couldn't put them down. Great storylines and characters and i would recommend to anyone, they are all a great read
