Although I only read the section of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, I can say that Johnson's approach is deep and engrossing. Johnson successfully stays away from modern scholarship's petulant mode of reading medieval texts and really gets down to the meat of the poem. I really appreciated her view and her opinions, even if I did not agree with them fully.
