Tierra Thompson has a chip on her shoulder and an ax to grind. She was born in the hood, and at twenty-one she has grown tired of calling it home. After hustling and being hustled by the dealers around the way, the hard truth is setting in and Tierra has to decide if she is willing to sell her soul to escape the grittiness of the streets. Nichelle Martin and Tierra have been best friends since childhood and used to be partners in crime until Nichelle lucked up and became wifey to Renaldo Renny O'Neal. Renny is known in the borough of Queens, as being the man who is making all the paper. With Nichelle s new upgraded status, her lifestyle is in stark contrast to the one formerly shared with her best friend Tierra. Escaping the grimy projects that her man now reigns over is proving to be bittersweet for Nichelle. In the hood, with street fame comes greed and jealousy. The need to remain on top, births the most trivial behavior. Can these two best friends keep their bond since childhood intact as both set out to go from Trife Life 2 Lavish?

This book is about an average teenaged girl in the ghetto. She has a long boyfriend and crazy bestfriend. When Nichelle's boyfriend is mudered secrets begin to spill out left and right. She soon finds that no one can be trusted.
I find this book to be very enjoyable. It was a very interesting story.
Now I finally got to read about Genevieve/Nichelle. Book was ok Deja brought in a lot of characters into this book from Stackin' Papers.
Nichelle and her mom was on the run and Nichelle and her mom names changed after a accident that lead them to run away. Nichelle had to start all over living without a father. She had a best friend Tierra that took up for her and brought things for her.
She then started to get into a relationship with Carmelo that was so sweet to her but, he didn't like Carmelo.
Tierra was that type that was money hungry and wanted to find that man to take care of her like Radric at least she thought he would until that was closed for good.
Carmelo didn't like Tierra and told Nichelle she can't be around him he didn't trust her.
When Renny first seen Nichelle he liked her from the start. When a accident hit out of the blue Nichelle was crushed causing her to be opened to anything so when Renny came to sweep her off her feet she feel for him.
Renny had some stuff up his sleeve to working behind Nichelle back from the start to either to protect her or to teach her a lesson.
At first I wasn't too excited to be reading about Genevieve's story but that quickly changed. The storyline definitely kept me interested until the very end. However, I did feel that the ending was sort of sudden and rushed but I'm still looking forward to the next installment.
I really liked this book. It's about a nieve youg girl name Nichell and her hating friend Tiera. She falls in the hands of a very dangerous man. people all around her end up dead. Cant wait to get my hands on part two.
This one here was a whirlwind of emotions. Page turner comes to mind with this one! I read Stackin Paper before I read this one! The overlap and sequence fall right into place once you’ve read both!
I love how the flow of events for this story flowed perfectly with the events of Stackin Paper. Getting ready to read part 2 of Stackin Paper. S**t just got real!! :)
I really liked this book. I am playing catch because I read the books out of order, so I am trying to put them all together. I would recommend to read.
I'm at my limit with the lack of editing. From now on, when I read a five star book with editing as atrocious as this it won't be getting five stars. I feel that I've dealt with it for a good long time and with each passing publication I expected it to get better.... it hasn't. If anything it's gotten worse. I know I harp on this but I honestly want an answer as to why any author, much less a great one, is okay with putting out such trash. Because even though this story is off the charts, as with all of her stories, it becomes trash when it's not edited. King could do so much more with her work, as a lot of other urban fiction and self-published authors can, but they aren't. I'm left to assume they don't care about the quality of the products they give to their readers. Trife Life to Lavish isn't my favorite King book but it is just as good as her others (NOT in terms of editing quality). I like how she brings in characters from other books but makes it so a reader doesn't need to read all the book in order to understand. It helps to do so but if you haven't you won't be missing anything in terms of understanding the story. I did think this would have more of Genisis but I think I'm going to be getting that in the next book. King is one of the very few authors I don't mind the sequels and the series. I could name on one hand the authors these days that haven't jumped on that bandwagon. What's sad is that most of the authors doing it aren't doing a good job. But King does, she's a talented writer. If you haven't read any Deja/Joy King books and want to I would suggest deciding how you feel about the editing and lack thereof. If it's a big deal to you, steer clear because it's about as bad as bad can be. If you can get past it, give them all a shot, she's definitely got the talent. I wasn't feeling those little first paragraphs she was doing in this book. Each paragraph had nothing, besides a slight similiarity, to do with the story and had that self-righteous ring to it, making it seem like the writer knows better than you. Random example (typed as-is): Everything has a price. Whether it is the designer stiletto boots that you can't afford, but yet they keep calling your name, or the trendy Gucci purse you spent two month's worth of rent on, only for it to go out of fashion before being able to fully floss in front of the ghetto-fabulous 'hood patrol. So, what's the price of one's soul? No one knows until they put it up for sale. Puh-leese... should have left these out Deja. I also didn't like the little nuances about race and color. Pg. 170 for example. This really takes away from the book and gives readers the idea that this is true - and it's not. Anyone with half a kicking brain cell knows it's not. Yet this feeds the idea in some people's minds. Not very professional if you ask me. Hence, a five star book being knocked down to a three star rating all because of such easily fixed/avoided problems. To her "editor" (if you should so happen to read this although I'd honestly be surprised if you can, in fact, read): You should be ashamed of yourself. How you can put your name on a product of such low quality I'll never understand. Not only are you making yourself look unintelligent but you're making King look the same. Random sentence: Then she too her the doorbell ring. pg. 82
Bang bang bang three shots fired from the young boy Genesis shooting and killing his father because he was tired of seeing his pregrant mother get beat on everyday basis for nothing but the police didnt want to hear that the young boy went to juevenile for a long period of time. After the death of her husband Teresa left her house pregrant wiht no where to turn living with her mother something nobodys want but 7 years later a man married Teresa and took care of her six year old daughter like he was own living the good life untill Kevon began to cheaton Teresa then brought the women in the home with their daughter have sex in their bed how disrespectful.
One day Teresa came home to Kevon on top of another women and once Kevon realize she was their he didnt stop he just keep going while his wife stood their, after he finished he began to beat her burning her with a lit cigratte and Teresa was feed up she had told her self before that she wouldnt let another man beat her, so once her turn his back she pick up a lamp and bashed his head in not knowning her daughter was eye witness. So once again she packed up and left with her daughter going to Atlanta where they change they names and started over not easy for the six year older to get use she would have nightmare and blame her mother for killing the man she thought was her father.
The setting took place in an Atlanta where all the drama unleached you got Nichelle falling in love with a man that later on gets set up and killed with her other friend by a man that want Nichelle all to his self. Years later she found out that the new man she was in love with named Renny she could bare to stay with someone that killed not one but three people she was close to and to top it off she lost her mother; shot in the head by Arnez but before her mother dies her last words to Nichelle was that Nichelle had a big brother name Genesis and was to find him because he was the only person that could keep her safe.
Reading this book after reading the the second part first it fill in a lot of blanks and questions I had while reading the first part it is a really good book and I would recommend this book to young readers like myself.

Okay, first let me say that I am not really a fan of "urban literature" but I joined a book club and this was the book for the month of April. The book was okay but it was definitely clichéd with most of the female characters being money hungry and manipulative and the main female character being naive and gullible in every area except sex. Each chapter began with a brief parable that detailed the dangers of life “in the game” but I found them extremely annoying and unnecessary. The reader should be able draw those conclusions from the story itself; if an omniscient voice was necessary then maybe there should have been a narrator. I was also annoyed at the fact that the last couple of chapters seemed to be there for the main purpose of getting the reader to purchase the authors next book “Stacking Papers 2” and left the main characters in this story in limbo. I hate cliff hanger endings in movie and it makes even less sense to have a book end with a cliff hanger.
I didn't think I was going to like this one. It actually was a page turner. I read part 2 before part 1 so it now fills in the blanks on why Part 2 went down the way it did. Can't wait to find out what the connection is between Talisa and Nichelle's mother. Why they look so much alike. I don't know if that is paving the way for another book or if its unraveled in one of the other books. Either way, Ms. King keeps me coming back.
READING THIS BOOK HAS MADE ME THINK HARD IF U READ THIS BOOK CAREFUL U WULD KNW THAT DIS BOOK IS ALSO HAS THE CHARACTER FROM HERE BITCH BOOK'S SO THERE ALL IN THE SAME THING WITH HAS U WANTIN TO READ MORE I LOVE HOW SHE AS A TWIST TO THESE
Wowwwww!!! What a page turner, read this book in 4 hours, now on to part two . This is my first book by déjà king, although I've always been interested in the bitch series. This book kept me hooked the whole entire time.
I dont really like this book like that because i cant seem to get into it like that but the one part of the story with the girls is kind of interesting... But IDK!
I loved it!!! Great book....I am so confused about the ending. Hopefully King ties up ALL the loose ends in the second installment. Now I have to get "Stackin' Paper."
