Worldwide television personality Eduardo Xol offers readers personal insights on making over every room in a home without the help of a design team or a huge budget Based on Eduardo Xol's own design philosophy—his belief that home design should incorporate elements that stimulate all five senses— Home Sense is about more than just redecorating your home. It's a guide to finding harmony within your personal sense of style and learning how to use it when designing your home, your office, or even your garden. Home Sense focuses on the problem areas of the home—a small bathroom, cramped closet, cluttered bedroom, or stark-white kitchen—and teaches readers simple techniques to not only make the most of these spaces, but also to amplify and accentuate them with their personal aesthetic.
Eduardo Torres Xol was an American actor, singer, television personality, designer, entertainer, social activist, and businessman. He is most known to U.S. television audiences for his work as a designer on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition which formerly aired on ABC.
i am giving this 3 stars only because i really liked some of the pictures and many of the designs. however, i was constantly distracted by HORRENDOUS typos (including about 200 instances of "site lines"-- i mean, hello?? lines of perspective? maybe related to seeing?) and it's and its both used as possessive-- on the same page!! hard to believe this was put out by harpercollins, which i thought was a reputable publisher.
one other gripe is that the author consistently describes portions of the room which are not revealed in the photos since most of them are cropped detail shots. rather frustrating.
lastly, he proffers "invaluable" advice while talking about supposed space issues... to paraphrase, "if you don't have enough room in your kitchen for your large servingware, STORE IT IN YOUR DINING ROOM HUTCH!"
omg, why didn't i think of that. *eyeroll*
if you have a dining room, you don't have storage problems. shut up.
This is a book about colors and changes you can make to your home to make it feel larger, warmer, etc. Some of the things discussed I knew already but other were ideas that were new to me. Can't say that I'll put most of them to good use though. Liked how the book was laid out chapter wise but thought that not all discussions had photos/pictures but sounded like they did and that you could see them.
So many great ideas small and large for all types of homes. This guy is from one of the HGTV shows. I didn't know him from the show (which is weird as i thought i knew ALL of them..) but some solid stuff in here. I picked up from library and didn't feel need to buy it but was great to look through which I did 4 or 5 times. What do you want from a shelter mag junkie?
