There are three sides to every story: hers, his and the truth.
Now we get Jonathan's side, and it's eye-opening! We see his doubts and insecurities when it comes to his relationship with Lena. We also get to experience first hand, his pure obsession with her booty. Definitely a case of not knowing you want it, until you want it. It also makes a good case for trying something different than what you've always known.
This author did a fantastic job of remembering all the details from 'White Male'. There was only one discrepancy that jumped out at me. When I read it in Lena's book I knew the author had gotten it wrong based upon Jonathan's character and how he likes to do things.
In this book, initially the author gets it right and then later on in the story it was changed once again to what was written in 'White Male'. No billionaire is going when he is a person that giving.
What I love about Jonathan's side of the story -- it provides greater insight into his thoughts and motivations. Of course, some scenes are identical, and they should be. We get to see how Jonathan operates in business and how he handles the people around him. We also get to see his relationship with his parents, and why he acted the way he did in 'White Male' when his mother arrived for an impromptu, but very revealing visit.
What made my jaw drop was the twist because I gotta be honest, I didn't see THAT coming AT ALL. The author has plans on continuing Jonathan and Lena's story in Books 3 & 4. Nope, this story with the H/h doesn't end on a cliffhanger.
Highly Recommended: Read It.
PS Love the guy on the book cover ... every time I see him.
This is the story from Jonathan's prospective. It was interesting to read Jonathan's thoughts on why he did not let Lena know right off the bat that he loved her. This caused some of the misunderstanding between the couple. However, even when Lena did know Jonathan loved her she still tried to push him away. I enjoyed the fact that Jonathan was persistent even though Lena had been very cruel to him.
Lord I am not sure I can read books 3 and 4 if Lena is going to keep doubting her man instead of getting into the fight with him to make sure others do not destroy what they have.
I just knew Jonathan's father James Carter had a secret but I was really thrown back to read who that person was. Obviously, he never got over his paramour. WOW.... I really wonder how this wil! play out in future books. This scenario along will keep me interested. It's 30 years of not having closure. That stands for an explosion of unlimited proportions.
Jonathon was not having Lena get away this time. Once he got his head clear from Lena's disappearing act to Cali, and finding out her state, he was not having her run again. He was determined to have his HEA with Lena and their family, by any means necessary including putting his parents in check.
Kim wrote a second part to the Lena / Jonathon story that was full of drama and some surprises. The plot gave the reader insight from Jonathon's point of view for his relationship and feelings towards the very stubborn Lena Williams. Some of it was a little redundant from the first book and was a little nerve racking and caused me to skip over repeated parts but all in all I enjoyed this book. Can't wait to read the future books in the Carter series.
Great book. This book is all about the thoughts of Jonathan. Of course I always like to hear what the hero is thinking in each book I read. Reading it from Jonathan's point of view Lena was a little annoying sometimes but I liked his spirit. He knew what he wanted and did not allow her insecurities stop him from perusing a relationship. Like I said in my updates progress, "Men can be so dense sometimes when it comes to a woman" ugh. Like yes I see you Jonathan trying to clear a path but dang a woman still wants to hear her man says I love you too. So yeah can't blame her insecurity then because Hello you were known as a playboy plus your attitude was "stank" at the beginning. (LOL perfect example of a voting pulling your pigtails to tease you because he likes you but doesn't want to admit it). Anywho I can go on and on but others would want to read and discover for themselves. So all in all I highly recommend this book and im looking forward to reading the other books hopefully with both sides of the story in one book but hey I'll take what i get as long as it's fulfilling as these first two book. Kudos !
I'm so happy I found book 1 a few days ago so i didn't have to wait months for this one. But now I know that there will be a book 3&4 I'm not so sure of my luck anymore.
I liked Lena much more in this book. Coming from this perspective I appreciate her more. I think hearing some of the assumptions she made in her book didn't allow me to see some things differently. As far as the pregnancy, I'm usually not a fan of the woman's decision to keep the pregnancy/child away from the father if the only reason is "we broke up so im doing this alone" that's unfair to him and the child. But in her case i had her back. I wouldn't want my kid around racists and Jonathan didn't check is momma hard enough in my opinion when she was rude to Lena. So it was A legitimate fear imo.
That was my biggest problem with him in book one and that fact didn't change in book two. Fuck her illness. She assumed she was the help, told her to go back to where she came from, got indignant on multiple occasion when Jonathan tried talking to her and in David's delivery room she had that side one. Nope. never going to like her.
After hearing Jonathan's farther's story, he was a chump (but i guess there'd be no Jonathan if things happened any other way); i knew based on the introduction to Lena's mom what the business is.
Wow Jonathan was so wrong for keeping what be knows about their parents from Lena. I wish be trusted her more. I know she's proven to be a flight risk but come on. And the Football team... that's a little rash
Nadine had the nerve to call Lena a prostitute when she was pretty much one. Steups
Wow Ashley was a mess. I wonder if her threat will amount to anything.
Fuck that prick Mason. He trashes black woman. Talk about them being a certain way bc they get dogged out. Yet be Dogged out his wife, who he claims was a good woman, for no reason. I hope, one day Jonathan breaks his nose during a session.
I still like Jonathan. I loved hearing about his thoughts. Sometimes I laughed at loud. He really is a crazy fucker. But he loves my girl. They had some cute moments together. I like how she tricked him when they were both suppose to show some skin on a count of three.
Khan the accounting, the things he had to deal with. J: i want to not l buy a football team and be able to fire people. K: does this involve a girl? J: yes. K: laughter. Then "are you out of your mind" J: probably 😂 i was thinking the same thing. Lawd the lawyer don't have it much easier.
I'll close with this. I love me some Jackson. I'd love to read a story from his POV. See what he really thinks of the shit Jonathan has him do

"Black Female" by Kim J. West
My Thoughts....
What a wonderful well written story that will keep you turning the pages to see what will be coming next for Lena and Johnathan. These were definitely two polar opposites but with Johnathan's determination well, we will see how it all comes out in this read. And then at the end as you kept reading the reader will get quite a twist that will only leave you wanting to know more. I will say this was one stubborn black female that at times really got on my nerves but in continuing to read one can see why she did and said some of the things she did with her being the runner and Johnathan being the chaser. I loved getting this side of Jonathan [POV] which did make things somewhat clearer from the first 'The Carter Files Book 1 story.' Oh, and by the way if you haven't read this author first story...Book 1 'White Male' I would highly suggest you pick it up and read it. Well, all that is left to say is that I will be looking forward for the next book.
Oh my this was way better then the first book, to me.
Seeing everything from his pov made everything have more clarity and I loved it.
Lena’s thoughts always had the undertone of insecurities and uncertainty with her trust in him.
But his thoughts were of confusion then pursuing. This is definitely a he falls first trope. Heck, he didn’t even know that he had a crush on her and that’s why he was being a a-hole.
I loved this and now that I know there might be more I’m super excited about it!
At first I was Leary about reading this book. But I must still you this book was everything. I loved how alpha Jonathan was, and they goes to any length to get what he wanted. This is a summer must read. I can't wait to read more of Jonathan and Lena.
This story was truly just as expected. Jonathan was really dense if not dumb because he couldn't have been so clueless as to not understanding what was going on and why Lena was like that. I have always prefer to read stories where you have the opinion of both female and male character, but this way was a little bit much and now to find out there will be more to this, such as book 3&4 is so not needed. Both book, white male and black female can be read separately or together because both are stand alone with a HEA theme where in the white male, Lena is the only one you hear from while in the black female it is only Jonathan, and it seems the other books will be a continuation of their story with several lies, twist etc.... But for now, this is fine! It was just as expected!
I absolutely loved this series. Well written, engaging and steamy, of course. This is written exclusively from Jonathan's POV on his relationship with Lena. Now, with as much as I like this series, I really think it should end here. I don't want to read anymore drama with these two. There were some doozies thrown in Jonathan's POV book that weren't in Lena's POV book regarding their parents' secrets. I am just not interested. I see Ms. West is doing a Part III and Part IV to this. No thanks. I just feel they went through way too much as it is to be together and I frankly was annoyed reading a second time how Lena selfishly continued to push Jonathan away. No man is going to chase that hard. I don't care. Especially a hot billionaire lol Give me a break. I guess that is where the fantasy part of these novels plays. But even with all of that said, I did enjoy the book a lot and I highly recommend it. I am just not sure more needs to be added to their story.
Great book. Jonathan wasn’t the most pleasant in the beginning his repeated statements that Lena was not his type got annoying after a while. We get it dude. Als him bullying Lena and making her workload tougher just because he found her confidence, smartness and physical beauty intimidating wasn’t exactly endearing. Sexualising her body when she clearly wore professional attire and seemed to always be professional with him at all times wasn’t nice either. But he soon redeemed himself and worked to prove himself worthy. Lena was great however her past hurt and tendency to want to run at the first sign of trouble was irritating. The humble act of not wanting to accept anything from her rich boyfriend was also taxing his rich enjoy it! Great book with flawed characters who loved each other and worked out well in the end.
I really didn't know what to expect with this book. I read White Male and when I realized there would be a second book with his POV I thought "do I really want to read the same story twice?" White Male was a good book. I enjoyed it enough to want to read more of her work. Obviously I bought this book and I've read it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More so than I did the first book. I even came away even more irritated with Lena. She's damn lucky this guy decided to fight for the relationship because she made it hard. Ready for the next installment in this series but I am hopeful that Lena will have matured and not run away at the first sign of trouble. I want to see her "put on her big girl panties" and give Jonathon what he deserves in a mate.
At this point, nothing the author could write in her future books sway my opinion.
This is Johnathan’s POV. I found him to be logical but at the same time his white privilege and wealth got in the way of reality. I do wish he spoke up more and defended Lena publicly when she needed it. I believe that he made several mistakes that will come back and damage him. Especially him allowing Ashley to stay in his penthouse. What a stupid thing to do. Once again, I applauded Johnathan for finally sticking up for himself. I like his POV much more.
I can’t with Lena and I won’t.
I would recommend reading White Male first then this book.
Great! Great! I think i love black female more than white male! Ms. West in both books were very detailed but this one was on it! Jonathan was lusting for Lena but it turned to love quickly for this strong , sometimes too stubborn black female. I think this one is my favorite. I would recommend this book and white male to anyone. Im loving the new twists at the end of the book, i wont spoil that for anyone. Continue writing Ms. West, i am a true fan! Cant wait for the next one!
Was waiting since last year for this book. West did not disappoint. It was exciting and gave you feel insights as to what was going on in Jonathan's mind. From reading White Male one would never think what happened at the book's (Black Female) conclusion happened at all. Jonathan knows how to keep a secret in order to preserve his relationship with Lena who is known to be very skittish. You, however, got the chance to see the depth of his love for her. Very satisfying read. Keep up the good work Kim.
A few of the characters could have had their physical description expounded upon to have the reader mentally staring at the faces. There were a lot of sex scenes that almost bordered on obsessive and unrealistic. Especially the episodes where Lena and Jonathan were having double and triple orgasms (back to back). My favorite scenes were when Jonathan had dialogue with Mason (the trainer). So true how a black woman will eff a man up and also give her all to that same man.
Well this was so much better than Lena's pov. I can't wait to see how all the family dynamics work out. Whew, I wondered about Daddy Carter and his dalliance with his own "Chocolate Delight," those many years ago. Now how is this going to affect family dynamics. What's up with Miss Ashley, she went away too easily. I feel that hiefer will be back from Texas with guns blazing. And Willis vwith his micro Duck behind, I'm sure he'll being done more drama. Really enjoyed this read and look forward to subsequent follow-ons.
Whewww!!!! That was an emotional roller coaster. I loved that we got to get Jonathan's side of this story. That man fell for her HARD!!! I Loved Lena and Jonathan, but poor Jonathan was put through the ringer with Lena and her insecurities And indecisiveness but through it all he loved her. I personally think this should have been first then White Male. If Ms West does write a part 3 and 4 Lena has to become a stronger woman for herself, and definitely for her man. She can't always FOLD LIKE A CHEAP CARD TABLE and RUN, sometimes you have to STAY AND FIGHT!!.
This book is a must read. I wasn’t able to put it down. I thought reading his side of the story was going to be just a repeat. But reading the other side was an awesome experience. I’ve never read a book where the author who wrote both sides of a relationship in two different books, but the same story. Well-done! I recommend reading both books and following Kim.
This is the second book in a series.i think it would have been better if the books were combined and the reader was able to see both POVs at the same time. Just opinion.
My favorite character was Mason. He was real and stayed that way.
Jonathan was missing something for me. He wasn’t my idea of an alpha man. He begged and whined too much.
Lena...I couldn’t understand her because I didn’t have her POV.
This book was excellent. It is truly a companion to book one. Now we know what Jonathan was thinking and feeling during all of the conflict and drama. This book was published in 2018 and indicates that there is more story to tell. However, I can’t find any current info on the author. I found this story to be satisfying so……I guess I will be content if books 3 and 4 never materialize.
This book was everything too me I really try to prolong it but I just couldn't. The twist at end was like....Wait what!😱. I can't wait for next for book. This book was really amazing love the fact I got to read Jonathan pov. Well really hope it works out the couple. Even better with 69😉
Please don't get me riled up only to find out in the next book Lena and Jonathan don't make it. I still don't know what Willis did to Lena to make her want to run so often when something goes wrong in her relationship with Jonathan. Lena seems to be a runner and Jonathan a chaser. He knows what he wants but at what cost. Looking forward to the next book.
I had my reservations about Black Female. Usually it is a watered down version of the first book. For book 2, that was not the case. I felt more connected to Jonathan and Lena in book 2. Black Female was remarkably written and there was definitely some unfinished business. I can't wait to see what unfolds.
I enjoyed reading the same story from the male side, cleared up a lot of things. It also added more depth and understanding of the differences between the male and the female way of thinking. I would definitely recommend this book & I'm looking forward to the next set. Just how it doesn't take forever.
I read the first version of this book and I really liked it but this version not so much. I still feel like it was written well but Lena got on every last one of my nerves. I honestly could barely finish. Several times I felt like Johnathan should have given up. All in all it was good reading his version.
I loved this writer style of writing. Awesome job done awaiting book 3 and 4. I want Lena and Jonathan to resolve their issues by supporting each other . I hate to read books about couples just not being there for each other when they are stumbling blocks
I am now an ardent fan of Kim. Fantastic story plot
In "Black Female," we didn't know just how bad billionaire Jonathan Carter had it for Miss Lena Matthews until we heard his side of the story! Sometimes poignant, sometimes hilarious (I hope that it was supposed to be) Jonathan goes through all the ups and downs of loving a Black Female!
Come on the train ride with this couple. What I love about these books, is that the gives you a complete look at every situation from both sides of the coin. I love how first you were given the female (Layna) and then the male pov (Jonathan). I cannot wait for books 3 &4 because it's gonna be a lovely ride.
