When Sammy arrives in New York City, she’s all innocence. After a very rude introduction to the overwhelming chaos of the big city, this very plain young woman stumbles upon two streetwise Cowboy & Ratso characters who appoint themselves as her “managers”. Growing out of this chance encounter, Sammy begins a bumpy ride in which she is mistakenly introduced to a porno movie casting session. Escaping the scene, she naively comes upon a deal she can’t refuse — renting a sumptuous Manhattan apartment from a Mafia character now on the lam that was formerly a high-class urban brothel. Her plunge into NYC culture takes a good turn when Sammy gets lucky and finds lowly work at a major ad agency writing copy with an outrageous band of Madison Avenue eccentrics. At a pressure cooker meeting Sammy is awkwardly “discovered”. She is suddenly and wondrously transformed into a fashion model during a tension-filled agency presentation to a big client, a handsome Italian clothes designer. She is quickly jettisoned into the media world of celebrity as a retro-super model. Now she is wooed into a turbulent half-hearted romance with her pompous ad agency boss. Disaster hits. Sammy is mistakenly arrested with her conservative boss in her mirrored red velvet apartment as a hooker during a fumbling raid by the police vice squad. She quickly loses her embarrassed shocked boyfriend. But now Sammy gains even more notoriety when her name is splashed across tabloid headlines. Taking advantage, she goes to Venice for an agency photo shoot . It’s there where she again meets again the dynamic but warm Italian designer. Swept off her feet, Sammy dashes off to Lake Garda where, after some confusion, she marries the Italian in a triumphant wedding at his villa, surrounded by his huge raucous family. This funky Cinderella story is filled with bizarre romantic comedy that rings bells for anyone who watches the mad but endlessly appealing hype of today’s celebrity world. Happily, Sammy wins. Big time.
