How often to do you fully listen to and express your own feelings before moving on to balance the rain and sunshine of life? A unicorn is rushing through the forest and oops...it suddenly loses its horn. It experiences a rainbow of emotions before making peace with its new appearance in the presence of a forest fairy that offers deep listening. A story about balancing the rain and sunshine, coming to terms with life's surprises. A message about fully feeling all emotions and deeply listening to what is happening within one self and the other before moving on. Once feelings are felt and expressed, the clouds of emotions pass to allow reflection over things judged as bad in order to see the benefit. The story also extends an invitation to look underneath ordinary happenings and beings to discover special meanings. Everything does have a tint of magic to it. It only takes eyes to see it! A story for read aloud sessions in classrooms or as part of bedtime storytelling and processing of emotions.

A quick look at Unicorn(ed) by Ina Curic and Crista Cernat. The artwork on this one really works with the fantastical theme. It has a dreamy, but whimsical feel to it that I enjoyed a lot.

The story itself has positive messages for children about looking beyond appearances, seeing the good in the bad and that the everyday world is full of magic.

The book includes some questions aimed at emotional awareness which could help kids look at different emotions they might be feeling and validate them.
