Aric Winters has a full and happy life, including a magical wife who can’t stay out of a trouble and an eight-year-old daughter who is following in her footsteps. Despite that, he’s content.
That is until things come to a head in his professional and personal lives and things threaten to careen out of control.
As a shifter, Aric has certain responsibilities in the wolf hierarchy. His father makes that clear when he brings a bigwig for a visit and expects Aric to entertain him. Unfortunately for Aric, his daughter Sami is out of school for the day so he has to take her along for the ride.
Sami is special, of course. She’s more than a wolf thanks to her mother’s mage background. That power is put on display when a member of the wolf council goes missing and Sami is expected to track him through the woods.
Instead of finding a living wolf, though, Aric finds a dead one… and it’s not the one he’s looking for. What follows is a race against the clock to find a murderer and keep his family safe.
Is Aric up to the task? He’s the top wolf on the job, and he’s about to find out.
This is short story in the Covenant College world. Timing-wise this takes place after the Living Covenant Trilogy and before the Dying Covenant Trilogy begins.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I don’t know how I missed the book in the series. There were a couple of typo errors which drive me crazy. I hope they edit the ebook. The story was ok for a novella.
Aric Winters and his wife are happily married, and they now have a little firecracker of a daughter, Sami. To anyone else, this would be a normal family situation, however, Aric is a wolf shifter and his wife is not, she is a mage. This means that their daughter Sami is a half breed. This doesn't matter to them one bit as they love her for the crazy fun little girl she is, when Aric's father rocks up with the council in tow, things get strained. Aric's father wants him to be more active in the wolf community, Aric however, does not. The disagreements and arguments are put aside though when one of the men who joined the council in the journey disappears. This leads to an investigation of what happened to him, what caused the death of the man who turns up in the woods and just how much is Sami already developing in her otherworldly abilities?
Now, I haven't read any other book in this series, but it didn't stop me from picking this up. I find that novellas and short stories, even if they're set further down in the series reading order, are a great introduction into a series and I can find out if it's something that I would enjoy investing time in. I definitely have to admit that this is a series I will be checking out. I've read a few other of Lee's series and have enjoyed them quite a bit, so I see that this one shouldn't be any different. Though from my understanding, this book is set AFTER the college years of Aric and his wife (who's name I cannot remember for the life of me right now...), where I believe at least the first half of the main series is set in the college years.
I didn't find that I was missing information by going into this story without having read it's predecessors, there is mention of a break up that happened in their college years, but it doesn't really add much to the story, so not knowing exactly what happened didn't take away from this story at all.
I found the characters to be super fun and intriguing. Some of Lee's characters have a tendency to grate on me at times, but I didn't experience it in this story, so I'm hoping this is a series that won't spark moments of annoyance for me haha. I'm intrigued about Aric's wife's abilities as she seems to be quite strong, and I rather enjoyed seeing her totally kick the arse of those that got in her way when it came to wanting answers. I feel like I will really enjoy her character, which makes me more excited to dive into this series because I'm pretty sure it's told from her point of view, at least at the start anyway. Aric seems like a great character and I'm intrigued to learn more about his past and the wolf council his father is so adamant he be a part of. And Sami is a total firecracker and a well rounded character for a child.
The story was intriguing and I didn't find that I had worked stuff out before it's due time which I always like. It's never fun when you work everything out before the characters do, it just makes the story seem to drag when that happens. This story, I had no idea the motivations behind things that were being said or that were happening. I feel like the ending may have been the tiniest bit rushed, but it honestly didn't impact the story itself at all. Everything was tied up in a nice neat little bow, which for what ended up being found out and happening seemed TOO perfect, but I'm hoping that these acts can be revisited later on in the main series.
All in all, this was a great short story that comes in at around 115 pages long. It's a fantastic introduction into the world of the Covenant College series as well as the characters. I cannot wait to dive into the main series and see what unfolds!
This Is the Outcome of Zoe and Arics Relationship from covenant college
I read this Rather than Audio Booked....I do find Amanda M. Lee Books better on Audio To be Honest
🧙 Cringe!!!! We get it your still going at it like rabbits..... Chatting so Easily in front of Sami with no Shame.....
🧙 Watching Aric and Zoe as Parents while still being each others favorite person..... Kids Make me wanna throttle my husband... Im 34 we been together since i was 17.... and still wanna throttle him at least 3 times a day..... I love him... but my favorite person.... Maybe on Sundays if he Barbecues!!!!
🧙 Sami was it just me or was she a little spoilt.... Im comparing her to peppa Pig in My head!
So it was a great Novella From Arics POV its a quick read Like i said i do prefer the Audio, but i fell in Love with Zoe and Aric so was Nice to see their conclusion!
This is a look back in time to when Sami Winters, Eric and Zoes daughter is only eight years of age. Her school is closed for the day which means someone has to watch Sami, Zoe has a meeting with her publishers and Eric has a busy day planned too, his father is coming to town with a delegation from the wolf's council for a meeting. Eric doesn't want Sami exposed to the wolf's council but he also.doesn't want to disrupt his wife's work so he agrees Sami can come to.the lumber mill with him. It's a place Sami is familiar with and there are people there who.can help.Eric watch her. Things seem to be going ok when one of the delegation turns up missing and that's when things get complicated. If Sami gets so much as a scratch Eric will never hear the end of it so he wants this situation resolved quickly and quietly, pity he has sought eight year old tagging along.
I loved the book. Aric, Zoe and Sami are fabulous. I love their banter and snarky comments. I now want to read the series from the beginning. Events were mentioned that if I haven't read the series wouldn't make sense. This short novella is separate from the series. It can be read as a standalone without getting confused or detract from its enjoyment. Aric has to take Sami to work with him due to some unforeseen circumstances. A group of people from the Pack come to see Aric when one member disappears. As the search begins a body is found but not of the missing person. Eric and Zoe investigate. Will they find the culprit for the murder and find the missing person before their life is put in jeopardy. Fabulous read!
I loved this book. It's so great to see Aric's devotion to his wife and child, even though the council (and sometimes Aric's dad) are complete jerks. Seeing things from Aric's point of view just cements how he's always been devoted to Zoe and always will be. He even waxes philosophically about Sami growing older. I was never in a rush to read the Covenant College books, even though I always enjoyed them, but I've loved reading about Aric and Zoe's life as they've gotten older. I'll always read one of Amanda M. Lee's crossovers whenever they're involved. Everyone needs a love story like Aric and Zoe's.
Nice to hear Aric's POV.. an inset day means Sami needs to go into work with Aric or Zoe.. she was crafty enough to mention it when they were frolicking in the hot tub and Aric had forgotten..
He has a meeting with the wolf council and his father.. one he's not looking forward to.. but what could possibly go wrong.. when one of the council aggressively pushes to open a new pack area right on their doorstep and another goes missing right in front of Sami maybe Zoe will wish she'd taken Sami to meet her publishers as this time the mini magewolf is involved like it or not..
This is a short story from an extraordinarily entertaining series that has for the most part wrapped up. The characters occasionally pop up in this authors other series. After reading the short I missed the series. It goes back in time a bit from the end of the series and gives a piece of what happened at one point in the middle of a Siri somewhere. Action packed well written and very entertaining. Always with a bit of a snarky attitude. Check it out
As always Amanda M. Lee spins s terrific tale. I was jumping up and down when I saw she wrote another covenant collage book even if it was just a short. I have read almost every book in all her series and am never disappointed they all have lots of laughs, charming characters a nasty villain or two. This series is more about a father's love. It's suspenseful hilarious all rolled into one, which is what I love about Amanda's books. I almost hate when I come to the end of a book because I love them. She keeps me wanting more.
Cute, fun and entertaining story that I didn't really expect to enjoy as much as I did. That's a failing in me because I don't always care for the different POV (you get used to one characters) and I also have trouble adjusting to the timeline change (some reason that doesn't bother me with the Wicked Witches). Of course Amanda M Lee always knows how to write a good story so I don't really feel surprise that I liked this one. Nice little mystery with a lot of plot and character development for such a short one. Looking forward to seeing more of these.
There really is nothing better than a short story from Amanda M Lee they are always well written, seriously funny and just great fill-in companions to her series. Wold on the Job was from Aric's POV in the covenant college series which is a fantastic series and Wolf on the Job was just brilliant Zoe was at her snarky, magical best, Sammy was the best mini version of both her parents which is a hilarious and scary combo...lol there was a good mystery and I loved getting an Aric POV.
Love this series and was so happy to see anything new. This short was an awesome read but short..lol but it was packed full of Aric and daughter Sami. As Aric had a take his daughter to work when Aric's father and pack board members were scheduled to be at his work too. I was so happy to read about Zoe and Aric again. Can we have a lot more shorts or another trilogy? All the Covenant College series were awesome!
I love reading and Aric, Zoe and Sami. I hope the stories continue into the next generation. I can't wait to meet the guy who Sami falls in love with, and hope one day I will. In the meantime, keep the exploits and shenanigans of the Lake-Winter pack coming. It's entertaining to read and see how Sami, and her parents deal with her manifestations of magic. Thank you Amanda Lee!!!
This was a very interesting read from Arics point of view. It was great reading more about Aric and Zoe,and Sami too. The book had a good storyline and the characters had the same sparking personalities from the previous series. It is definitely a must read. Amanda m lee has another good story on her resume.
It was great to peek back into Zoe, Aric, and Sami's life. Amanda Lee never fails to entertain with her witty style and wonderful characters. This latest book in the Covenant College hints at the powers that Sami will soon manifest. I hope the take will continue as she matures.
I'm so glad to get a new Covenant book. It's been too long. This was the first series I read by Amanda M Lee and hooked me on all of her different series. This will make the most sense if you have read the entire series. I'm very excited to see characters from different story lines popping up in other places. Love this author!
I had just finished "The Covenant College" series and found " Wolf On the Job". I can't remember the last time I smiled and laughed reading books. I'm76 years young and I truly enjoyed these books so far. Need an escape, awesome as read these books. I guarantee you will read one after another ! Thank you Amanda M. Lee for your imagination and gift.
Love Aric, Zoe and Sami. I thought we'd heard the last of the Lake-Winters family, so really enjoyed this short story. I laughed a lot, I love the snark and the antics.
Once again, evil tries to destroy this little family. Once again, they fail. If you love some snark, sarcasm, magic and lots of love in your fight for good, you’ll adore these stories.
I love A. M. Lee books. The endearing characters, humor, and interesting plots always entertain. I hope we read more about Zoe, Arik, and Sami. You can always count on an excellent reading experience with her books. Enjoy!
...from what I usually read. Short story was witty, magical, funny, and strangely down to earth with it’s new fashioned family values. Strong female characters is an understatement.
Awesome fast paced read with lots of twists and turns, love the humor and interaction between the characters, loved reconnecting with Zoe and family great storyline lots of action and fun
I have enjoyed reading this book as I did the first five. Am now looking forward to reading the living and dying. It is good to read about something which is different from all over supernatural and doesn't just focus on witches.
I liked this book because it always came close to my favorite, "witches of the West." Zoe was a good mother figure and got her family out of and Into many messes.
I loved to read Aric's perspective! Its funny how Zoe seems exactly the same from her own point of view an Aric's. The story line was interesting and it kept me wanting more! A must read
Such a great story despite the steep backward in time. I miss this series! I want to know more about Sami. This series is just so much fun with its wit, sarcasm, and cynicism! I hate the wolf pack, seriously, what a bunch of idiot's. James, how do they put up with his crap?
snark, love, danger, astonishing story, amazing characters! Great storyteller! Got the paranormal nicely blended with real world. Throughly enjoyable! Respect!!
