To The Cache La Poudre

Rate this book
When a marauding band of Cheyenne Dog Soldiers attack a wagon train and take two women and a boy captive, Talon Thompsett is surprised when no one is willing to go after the Indians and try to rescue the captives. But the young man is reminded of his father’s counsel that “Whenever a task falls to you, don’t question the why of it, just get busy with the doin’ of it!” Now he must set aside his new job as Shotgun for the Overland Stage and gear up for the pursuit of a band of warrior renegades. A tall task for an unproven young man, but when none of the pilgrims believe in the cause, and the settlers of nearby LaPorte refuse to leave their homes unguarded, Talon realizes he must face this challenge alone. His commitment and determination lead to the making of a man and a bloody chase through the foothills of Colorado and the plains of the new territory. Along the way, he makes a bitter enemy of the Cheyenne war leader, Two Bears, who is determined to seek vengeance on this unknown white man and prove to his people that he is the chosen leader of the notorious Dog soldiers. But Talon is undaunted and even eager to show the renegade that this white man is more than his match. Follow the trail that takes a young man from the Cache La Poudre through intimidating country and back to the Overland Trail as he proves his worth as he rises to the challenge and the making of a man.

I have been a dedicated follower of B. N. Rundell for some time now, and can certainly attest to his extraordinary visionary writing tactics of the old American folklore. I have been fortunate enough to read most of these Bucks in Chronicles, finding each and every new release to be a little better than the previous. I will be rereading Book 8 as I cannot recall what happened to Talon. Anyway, I know it will be worthy of my effort.

Mr. Rundell has another five star sensation that just seems to reach out and grabs his readers and never lets them go. He certainly has a very heartwarming rhythm never ceases throughout the entire story. I have read !pat of this series and somehow let myself skip about while enjoying each episode whether in order or not.

Believe me when I say these stories are very solidly developed by the author, and his uncanny ability to always select the perfect character for each and every detailed assignment is definitely a very special gift. Too, the detailed storylines are unbelievably great western, leaving the readers reading most their bedtime to see what happens next.

Most definitely recommend this series to everyone, as I believe each and everyone of you will immediately become fascinated by the never ending adventures throughout the entire set of books. There is certainly enough romance, knock down and drag outs, gunfights, plus just good old cowboy and Indian episodes to keep you turning pages to see what happens next! Read this series, or the loss is yours!😂

YOUR NEVER ALONE

A very good ride west over the Overland Stage and the adventures that the passengers will be facing. Lots of action on both sides, those of the Native Americans who are trying to survive; the settlers who are headed to Oregon territory and the hardships they meet.
The author's detailed description of the western topography, it's colors, you feel that your their with the settlers as they pass through. Crossing shallow fast moving rivers, watching for eddy's which denote the possibility of quick sand.
A nice western adventure, which I think everyone will enjoy.

Awesome!

You know the only thing I find wrong with these books are they are not long enough. I really love reading these books on Buckskin Chronicles, can't wait for number 8. I was really glad to read one on the twins and hope to read many more on them. Thank you Mr. Rundell for a great read. They need more stars this was way more than 5.

Great Continuation

This book is a continuation of the Buckskin Chronicles. We learn about the fourth generation. First there was Jeremiah, then Ezekiel, then Caleb and now Talon. Great story, well worth the time and money.

Good read

This Buck skin Chronicle has the story advancing several years. The twins are grown, and Talon is on his own, riding shotgun on a stage route, fighting Indians, rescuing captives, falling in love, and getting married.

5 Stars

When book 6 ended Caleb and Clancy had just became parents to twin boys. Book 7 begins with both boys grown and Talon heading out on his own. Eventually he becomes a shotgun rider for the Overland Stage company and the adventure starts.

Awesome story! What a series!

At first I was disappointed that so much time had passed when this book started, but I was impressed how good it was! Loved Smoky, who sounded so much like a Aussie we used to have.
