Little Tuckie finds a mysterious piece of fabric, and as he tries to figure out what it could be, his imagination transports him into a world of limitless possibilities. All thanks to a simple, symbolic every day item.
One day little Tuckie comes across a purple piece of cloth. He uses his imagination for different ways to play with the cloth, from making a ladder to fishing with it like a rod.
After a full morning of play he goes for his afternoon nap but when he wakes up the cloth is gone. Who could have taken his piece of cloth and why?
Tied in is an adorable children’s book about how something so simple as a piece of cloth can spark a child’s imagination and how much fun they can have with it – A bit like when a young child gets a present but prefers the box it came out of.
I enjoyed watching Tuckie find innovative ways to use the cloth and was surprised when I found out what the piece of cloth actually was – His dad’s tie (it’s hard not to give this away as you’ll read in a minute) – Tuckie has a very good imagination.
The illustrations are beautiful and complement the story completely. They are full-page, bright and vivid.
At the back of the book are instructions on how to tie a tie, as the author believes that every young child needs to learn to tie one. Unfortunately, I disagree that all little children need to learn to tie a tie, especially at such a young age, but I’m wondering if it is more of a cultural thing. Where I live in the UK, very few schools have ties, including the high schools, most have polo tops or cravats. A lot of workplaces don’t have a tie policy these days either. I can, however, see kiddies wanting to follow the instructions in the book and learn to tie one.
Overall I think the story of little Tuckie using his imagination with the cloth and having fun will it will resonate with many children and give them some ideas on simple ways to play as well as a beautiful story to read.

Tied In by Anthony Tucker is the story of Little Tuckie, a boy who discovers a colorful piece of cloth and begins to have marvelous adventures with it. But it turns out that it is actually a tie that belongs to his father.
After reading Tucker's first book titled A Rocky Start, I had high hopes for his second title...and he didn't disappoint. Tied In is a fabulous picture book.
The book is very colorful and bright, and I loved the illustrations. Illustrator Charlene Mosley has a very distinct style that I adore. I loved the water colors and how alive the characters and their situations appeared on the page!
As with Tucker's last book, the writing is fantastic. I greatly enjoyed the bits of repetition and seeing what Little Tuckie would imagine next with his "piece of cloth." The creativity and possibilities put into this everyday item is a very endearing concept. Not only is a necktie a symbol of success, but now a window into the creative mind of a child. Little Tuckie comes to learn the significance of this object but still hangs on to all of the possibilities that opened when he found this "piece of cloth" in the house.
At the end of the book, there is a tutorial showing readers how to tie a necktie. This is a really great addition to the book as it provides a learning experience for young readers following a lovely story.
