The Exterminators Trilogy by Mark Gillespie. While I enjoyed the After the End trilogy by Mr. Gillespie, I couldn't quite get into the Black Storm, Fever, Earth trilogy. For some reason the washed up movie star, Cody was annoying in the extreme. While well written and very descriptive, I just could not get into the premise and the alien invasion scenario. Mr. Gillespie's fans will no doubt find the series entertaining.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Suddenly, there is no blue sky only a black sky. People are turning crazy and killing themselves or others. People are desperate to find someplace safe. Rachel and her dad are trying to get to the San Antonio Airport. There is a creature called the Black Widow that chases people and give them the Black Fever which causes them to kill themselves. Will they make it to the airport in time? After a very weird event at the airport, Rachel and her dad decide to go to downtown San Antonio as they saw a light thinking they may find help there if not safety. They go with her dad’s friends. They discover the Black Storm’s latest killers known as Sliders designed to kill the last of the human race. Will the Sliders succeed? Rachel has special powers that have become even stronger. She isn’t sure what her powers can do. Is Rachel to become the hope for humanity to survive? The Black Storm is coming to earth to live. What is it? Why does it want to destroy humanity? Rachel learns that they (Black Storm) are exterminators from another world. They want to know about Rachel’s special powers as they have been defeated by her. Rachel will have to fight a war to end this. Can she? Will there ever be blue skies again?

The compelling and intriguing story kept me “glued” to is pages. It has so many twists and turns that were unexpected. The author wrote an excellent science fiction, mystery and horror novels. I could see the characters and scenes as if I were standing on the side due to the author’s excellent writing. It flows.

Disclaimer. I received an arc of this book from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review or any review at all. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

‘The Exterminators’ is an action packed trilogy in which a father and his young daughter first try to outrun the Black Storm and the Black Widow, and later on try to fight the enemy causing these phenomena. Due to the small amount of pages in each book, I’d rather call this one book in three parts, rather than a trilogy. It’s fun to read, thrilling too, but the amount of gun fights is over the top. I would have liked a little less shooting and a little more ‘something else’.

The story has some originality, but in essence it’s mostly a mixture of other stories and ideas, with a personal touch. There is not that much in these books that hasn’t been written before in some way (pandemic, society collapsing, people acting with rage like zombies, road trip, etc.) It’s interesting though to witness society fall apart if something goes wrong, and to see how the best in one person is braught up, and the worst in somebody else. These contradictions are very extreme in this book. There are not many characters who keep behaving in a moderate way, somewhere in between good and bad.

I liked the local accents of the characters in this book a lot. It’s not about the accent in itself, but about how the author has put it on paper. It appeared very realistic to me, and because of that also funny. I could really see these people move and talk in front of me. I usually prefer more in-depth books though. This book is comparable to an action movie full of bullets and explosions, and I can enjoy this every once in a while, but not too often. All in all it was not a bad read.

The earth is dark. There is no sunlight, and people are dying by the millions, by suicide and by murder. This is the premise of this trilogy by Mark Gillespie. I'm not sure why it is a trilogy, instead of one book. The stories cannot stand alone, nor can they be read out of order.
The heroes of the story are a father and daughter. It is sort of odd that everyone recognizes the father from a movie he made twenty years ago. I have a lot of questions about the story. Is the Black Widow an alien? Why do the aliens (Exterminators) choose this sort of haphazard way to get rid of humans? How do the children fight back? Why does my favorite character have to die? Do the humans win?
Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read an ARC of this book in return for my review.

I want to thank the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this trilogy. I love the cover of this trilogy which is beautiful where it shows Rachel holding her father Cody's hand.

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are targeted for extermination.

We find Cody who wants to do everything to save his daughter Rachel from this world full of horrors. Except that it is she who will end up protecting him and everyone else. They will have to escape the hell on earth.

A trilogy read in an afternoon so I immediately hooked on the story so moving in some passages, gripping, captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists with very endearing characters. I love the author's writing.

Solid Alien Invasion/Post Apocalyptic Trilogy.

Called a trilogy, it's really a long novel broken into three short novels perhaps to exact a higher price on line. Anyway, it's pretty good stuff, with strong central characters, and some very creepy set pieces along the way. Mr. Gillespie has got some talent and it's nicely on display here. I'll probably explore more of his work in the future.

I received these books in exchange for an honest review.

Outgunning the Black Storm and the Black Widow, Rachel and her dad are trying to reach the airport to escape this alien enemy. A little difficult to identify with the characters, but overall action-packed and thought-provoking. Apocalyptic and life-changing, but a little limp in the writing. Only my opinion.

Loved it! Great series. The black storm and the black rain that came with it, along with the black lady, and everything else that happened was so engrossing. Mark kept me in the edge of my seat through the entire series. I can't wait to read more from him!

This is a pretty good apocalyptic trilogy. The writing is good overall as are the character portrayals. There are many helpful reviews out if you want more info there already since the books have out a couple of years already.

I really appreciate the review copy!!

Great read

I told myself as I started reading this book that I wasn't going to enjoy it. The further I got into the book the more I was hooked . Really good alternative apocalyptic take of family loss and over coming evil .

when your kid knows more than you

I don’t know, it just didn’t thrill me. Wasn’t bad, but wasn’t really good either. A time killer when you want a fast read.
