I'm the New York Times bestselling author of more than fifty novels, including my debut, SEE JANE DATE (also available in cute TV movie form to stream). I write emotional, heartfelt romances for Harlequin Special Edition. I've also had two novels published under a secret pen name, but I will happily share if you message me to ask. I also wrote seven Special Edition novels under the pen name Meg Maxwell.
I'm a proud mom and animal devotee who lives on the southern coast of Maine. 4 new Harlequin Special Edition novels are coming in in 2026 starting with The Rancher's Famed Triplets, part of my Dawsons Family Ranch series (out now). Look for The Cowboy's Surprise Baby in July.
I loved this book. It was never quite what I expected, never predictable or trite. I loved the transformation and how it was more about confidence on the inside and the courage for Ginger to be what she was instead of hiding behind what she had been. Well done.
Ginger O'Leary is a waitress at Busty's, an exotic dance saloon. She isn't a dancer there, just a waitress, but she knows she needs to dress "appropriately" to get bigger tips. One night she decides to sleep with one of the saloon's steady customers, Alden Arlington, since he seems like a nice guy. Uh Oh! The condom breaks. Guess who is now pregnant. Telling Alden the news of his upcoming fatherhood gets ugly as threats get tossed out about Alden going for custody of the baby because "obviously" Ginger wouldn't be a fit mother. Oh No! Not going to happen. Ginger takes off to Wedlock Creek, WY and attempts to enroll in Miss Davenport's School of Etiquette to better herself. During her initial interview she states to Larilla Davenport that her goal if she gets accepted is to be a good mother. Larilla Davenport is a truly caring person and offers Ginger a "scholarship" to attend her three week course. There Ginger meets James Gallagher who is Larilla's godson. James had returned home to Wedlock Creek a number of years ago to raise his quintuplet half-siblings upon the death of his father and stepmother. He is at this time looking forward to escaping his responsibilities now that his siblings are adults. He has no intention of getting involved with pregnant Ginger. How successful will he be?
To Keep her Baby by Melissa Senate is the fourth book in the author's Wyoming Multiples series. The overriding series arc is that couples getting married in the Wedlock Creek Chapel would be blessed "with multiples, whether through marriage, science, luck or happenstance." The multiples in this story are James' quintuplet half-siblings. Ginger is pregnant with just one baby. I loved how this author developed the relationship between Ginger and James. She has them attracted to each other but the conflict in the story is that no matter how attracted James is to Ginger he doesn't want the responsibilty of a child for about ten years or so. He did his duty and is ready to be fancy free. The resolution is heartwarming. This was a fun read with lots of special scenes. I totally enjoyed this book!
Quick, cute, and exactly what I needed for a travel read.
This was a fast, easy, one-sitting kind of book that hit the spot when I needed something light for a flight. To Keep Her Baby by Melissa Senate leans into classic category romance vibes — simple, sweet, and wrapped up with a guaranteed HEA.
Ginger’s journey is very Cinderella-meets-Pretty Woman-meets-My Fair Lady energy. She’s working in a gentleman’s establishment, finds herself pregnant (not the MMC’s baby), and enrolls in a finishing school to transform into someone a family court would deem “fit.” Watching her grow into a more polished, confident version of herself was the strongest part of the story for me.
James, the MMC, is her instructor’s nephew who is very much not looking for a family after raising his quintuplet nieces and nephews — and of course, that makes the emotional tension pretty predictable. Their dynamic is sweet, a little bantery, and definitely instalove, but with the short length, it kind of had to be.
That said, the pacing felt rushed (again, category romance length), and I wanted just a little more depth in their connection and emotional payoff. Everything wraps up quickly and neatly, which works for the vibe but doesn’t leave a huge lasting impression.
Closed door, no spice — just soft, wholesome romance.
✨ What worked for me: Ginger’s transformation arc and growth Classic makeover / etiquette school storyline Easy, quick, no-brain-needed read Sweet dynamic with a guaranteed happy ending
Overall, a cute, low-stakes romance that’s perfect when you want something quick, comforting, and drama-lite — just don’t go in expecting a lot of depth.
For the longest time till the h acknowledges that her search for a substitute father was because of her lack of confidence in herself, I really didn't like the h. She just came across as a desperate woman who was looking for a baby father and would be a leech who would take a lot out of the relationship rather than bring something into it apart from sex. Also, her passion for reading felt it was thrown in there as a redeeming attribute. Considering she has been going around reading biographies of great women and had at one time ambitions for college, it felt as though she had given up life in general and going through the motions of it. The H between raising half-sibling quintuplets through their teens and building a successful business didn't judge her, was a great friend, gave her an awesome job for which she had no qualifications, lusted after her and obviously proposed to her.
She was determined to transform herself. But to him? She was perfect. After Ginger O’Leary learns she’s pregnant, she tells the ‘suit’ dad, who wants nothing to do with her and his sister says they’ll take the baby if she tries for support because she looks like a tramp. Overdone make-up, tight tanks with rhinestones, and short leopard print skirts, well it’s time for a whole new Ginger. James Gallagher’s happy to help his aunt’s new student at Madame Davenport’s School of Etiquette, but after years of raising his quintuplet siblings, becoming attached isn’t in the plan. Yet neither is the way his heart soars every time he and Ginger match wits. What will it take for these two opposites to realize that they’re made for each other?
To Keep Her Baby was a rather quick read, however I loved the plot and the characters some how Melissa Senate made the fast pace work and the connection fierce. A great read!
This was a very sweet read. James and Ginger make a great couple and I could really see how they fell in love little by little. I love that James is a likable hero and never hurts Ginger on purpose and never treats her with disrespect. Ginger starts a bit weak but that is her character, after a while she becomes a strong woman. Great read! I had a really good time. I received a free copy via NetGalley.
