I liked this one very much, and while it's easy to tell that it was newspaper writing from a while ago, the information was great. The article about How Dates are Reckoned (p. 73) was fascinating, and chapters 4, 5 and 6 were especially interesting to me, as they were about the language (Thai English Word Pairs and their common roots! Pg. 92!), the food (ch. 5), and fables (ch. 6), which are the best way to figure out the basis of a culture in my mind. I wish I had more time to read nowadays, and that I'd read Segaller's first book before his second! Oh, also, pg. 65, I never would have known where Bangkok's name was derived from ('ma' a common beginning for fruit, as explained earlier in the chapter, 'makok' the hog-plum, bang-makok [bang for mashed?] later shorted to Bangkok)!
