3.x GR stars. This is less of the second chance romance and more the shakeup of various PoVs trying to put right the mess the MCRT became during Gibbs's "siesta" (including a Director Jenny Shepard who, thanks to a pre-fic twist of fate away from canon, recognizes the dangerously and selfishly misguided direction her decisions had been heading), plus an SVU-type procedural casefic.

It requires no knowledge of Numb3rs to read this; Ian Edgerton alone appears from that series, and could just as well be an OC.

It's good to see Tony getting support of multiple sorts and levels — from Jenny, Dwayne Pride, Derek Morgan (an established friendship), Penelope Garcia, and other canon faces and OCs —, claiming his personal agency, and showing his investigative worth. However, it's frustrating to see how *certain characters* still refuse to acknowledge their own poor conduct and take responsibility for change. (The frustrations of working often-unwinnable domestic violence and sexual assault cases is also a lesser element.)

This is marked #1 of an untitled series, and the author's notes (from 2017) on the story's main page, https://jillyjames.com/fiction/de-novo/ , say a sequel is/was planned to cover Gibbs's return but ... who knows. (Btw, despite the casting photo, the TAD ~minion~ for Tony's newly-assigned/chosen unit has never yet appeared "on screen" — which is too bad, because his personality description and the casting would indicate he was inspired by 'Stiles' Stilinski.)
