These are three short stories sent out from Glenn's newsletter for a special Halloween treat.
I had previously read In the Basement of the Amazing Alex Cucumber over the summer as part of the Alien Agenda Publishing (AAP) Sampler (which is an excellent sampler anthology. Read it). So, I re-read about Alex Cucumber's big party he was throwing in his basement. He invited some new kids who were pretty thrilled to have received an invitation, as Alex was a bit mysterious and maybe a bit more popular.
It makes me cringe. If you hear rumors about families that aren't exactly desirable, don't take them up on their party offerings!! And elevators, stay out of elevators.

The second story, You Can Have It All Back, to me, is reminiscent of Stephen King's The Little Green God of Agony. It's one of those stories that really keeps spinning in my brain. Although the story is short, it is still inside my head, turning and turning. I think my personal Jiminy Cricket is too big to do what Kyra Shaw did, but I guess we don't really know what we would do until we are the ones on our death beds. Would you pass on your terminal illness to someone else so You Can Have It All Back? Ugh. Heartstrings.
This was probably my favorite story of the three.

The last story, Believer, is about a traveling scammer named Frank who pretends to be a former psychiatrist. Dr. Roberts scams people out of their cash by listening to their alien encounter stories because they feel so much better after they've had someone listen to them. While he's traveling alone on an empty highway, he gets a little payback. I mean, really, nothing could possibly go wrong on a deserted stretch of road in dark hours of the wee morning, right?
