For when economy is bad and you are a highschool teacher who needs cancer treatment.

(Just kidding. Sort of.)

Commonly associated with the infamous “Uncle Fester,” in its 1990s edition, is a notorious countercultural underground manual that purports to explain how illicit drug labs function. It became widely cited in media and court cases as an example of DIY illicit-drug literature circulating pre-internet and early-internet, Law-enforcement interest in it during the meth lab crisis era.

The time in place it was written (pre 9/11 america) had an ongoing debate about free speech vs. public harm, with a major resurgence shock value and taboo subject matter. Much like the “anarchist cookbook” before it, its underground publishing is a good example on how misinformation spreads in illicit communities.

2/5 Unsettling in that it has likely killed people, and not in the way expected.

While I'm not going to criticize it on the moral angle, it's literally a guide for criminal behavior.
What I will criticize is how functional it is as a manual. While it is all but expected to be Scientifically simplified given the clientele reading it. It is often technically inaccurate, uses outdated chemistry methods, and often tries to compensate for lack safety rigor with bravado writing.

(Clever from a liability end though. After all, what would you say in the lawsuit? "I blew my nipples of making illegal drugs?")

It shows how illicit production networks adapt to precursor restrictions, this is a great primary source if you wanted to write a paper and has value as a cultural curiosity.
