In the board book, "How do You Say Good Night," a young zebra asks the different animals she meets about their bedtime routines.

The lion cubs say good night with all their might, with wrestling, a roar, and a bow to the King.

The elephants have a snack and spray off their backs before thanking God for their day of fun under the sun.

With simple rhyme and beautiful drawings, the artist Catalina Echeverri leads a young listener to an appreciation of the nightly routines enjoyed in different ways by the animals, as the child and parent/grandparent participate in an important nighttime ritual themselves--the reading of a bedtime story.

I believe parents and grandparents will enjoy reading this book to the children they love, while smiling together at the silly animals. I know I plan to read How Do You Say Goodnight? to my grandchildren.

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.

This is a great board book for children! The story follows Zoey the Zebra as she travels around asking different animals how they say goodnight. The illustrations are beautiful and I just loved all of the animals. Zoey sees that all the different animals, from elephants to hippos, say goodnight in different ways and she learns that each one is great in their own way. This was a fun and simple story for children about how everyone does things differently and there is nothing wrong with that.

Thank you to the publisher, Thomas Nelson, for sending me a review copy of this book.

What a beautiful book to use at bedtime with toddler to kindergarten children! Catalina Echeverri does a masterful job creating kid-friendly illustrations as Zoey the zebra traipses across the African savannah to find out how all the animals say good night. Each page has a catchy poem describing the made up nighttime rituals for each which is likely to be memorized quickly by young ones who will ask for this one nightly. Included in each poem is a line referencing some aspect of God’s attributes. Added bonus-each poem includes the collective noun used for each animal family group. This book would make a wonderful shower gift for expectant parents, a great addition to any evangelical church or private school library, or, as in my case, a wonderful purchase for my Grammy bookshelf!! Thanks for the dARC, Edelweiss.

The illustrations in this book bring the story to life and make me smile. Zoey the zebra looks out on a hill and realizes bedtime is near. She wonders, “How do others say good night before they’re tucked in tight? Do they stop to pray before they hit the hay? Do they brush their teeth before they go to sleep? What’s the very best way to end each wonderful day?” She heads out to find the best way to say good night.”

I enjoyed the fun rhythm of this story; as Zoey goes from animal to animal discovering what they do in their night time rituals. He’s amazed at how different they are from one to the other. It’s kind of like Goldie locks and the three bears she goes from one chair to the next trying to see which one fits her just right.

Everyone does things different and that’s ok. It’s a good thing to learn. I think this is a fun encouraging read right before bed. I could see this being a family favorite.

How Do You Say Good Night? is a board/picture book perfect for little ones. It’s full of colorful illustrations of various animals. The story follows Zoey the zebra who’s curious how other animal families say good night. So he explores that curiosity to gain answers from each group. What parents may appreciate is the subtle educational aspect of this story: a pride of lions, a herd of elephants, a sounder of warthogs and so on. Plus, each notes some activity that would be typical for that particular animal. The lions wrestle and roar. The elephants have a light snack and spray off their backs. The ostriches preen. These are a few examples. There are a total of seven animals represented in this book (zebras, lions, warthogs, ostriches, hippos, elephants and monkeys). This is a great book to read to any little ones and since it’s a board book it will hold up to some abuse. And each page notes each animal family giving thanks to God for something specific: food, a place to sleep, for the day, for His love, etc. This would make a good book to start a bedtime routine with toddlers. This is my honest review of How Do You Say Good Night? I received a complimentary copy from BookLook Blogger.

How Do You Say Good Night? is a children’s board book, illustrated by Catalina Echeverri, that shows various animals in the wild getting ready for bed. With calming words, and earth-tone illustrations, the book has a peaceful atmosphere.

Children can see zebras, lions, warthogs, elephants, ostriches, monkeys, and hippos preparing for bed, and then feel at ease about their own bedtime routines. The book particularly focuses on a zebra named Zoey, who visits other animals in the wild, and children can relate to Zoey’s energetic and curious nature.

When visiting each group of animals, Zoey asks them, “How do you say good night?” The animals have different ways of saying goodnight and getting ready for bed, but they all have close relationships with their family members, and say good night by giving praise to God. After reading this story, parents and children can ask themselves the same question, “How do we say good night?” The book can be used as a fun and introspective bedtime activity.

I received this book for review.

How Do You Say Goodnight? is an illustrated children's book about how different groups of wild animals prepare for bed. With a fun soft rhyming scheme and silly things that the groups of wildlife do, kids are bound to be entertained. It is a simple board book that not only talks about bedtime routines but also ties in religion and thankfulness.

It is a little longer than your average board book, but as the little zebra is putting off her bedtime to talk to the other animals, I am sure that many little ones are trying to do the same with a story, and more words isn't a bad thing.

The book takes the time to also include some educational moments - like naming the groups of animals: a pride of lions, a flock of ostrich etc and including tid-bits that help young ones learn more about those animals as well.

I think that is you a religious family, this book is a good addition to your bookshelf. If you are not, there is a line about God on just able every page, so this might not be for you.

I have read a lot of children's book, goodness that is about all I read as my 3 year old adores being read to and when I say that this book is one of the best ones I have ever read for night time, I mean it. Not only is the content absolutely amazing, I love how it rhythms and flows so well, very clever and well written, not to mention you are able to expose the littles to how a group of lions is a pride of lions, etc I know didn't read about that stuff till I was much older so how great to expose them to it when they are little!
I also adore how this book is all about the Lord and His blessings, perfect to keep in mind always! I think it will direct discussions and help little ones count their own blessings.
The illustrations are utterly charming too, whimsical and yet realistic enough too.
If you are looking for a wonderful book to add to your nightly routine I highly recommend this book
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love a good board book for kids. This story is super cute and I was actually surprised at how many words are on each page. It makes for a longer than expected story which isn't a bad thing, just not what I was expecting. The main story is animals being thankful to God for some thing in their life like "We thank God above for His sweet, gentle love". It is a sweet little bedtime book that I think some children would really enjoy!

Five stars.

A note that this book is religious, but not obviously so from the cover. Nevertheless! If you are on board with thanking God as part of night time rituals, this is a pleasant read about a zebra observing how other species in her ecosystem say goodnight before she returns back to her herd. The volume of text and the black / white font colors felt busy to me, but none of it was extraneous.

Cute story about animals as God's creatures who thank Him in their own unique ways before going to bed. The story rhymes. Some of the rhymes were a little cheesy, but it was a kid's book after all.

(5☆ Would recommend & would read again)
This is one of my personal favorite children's books. I bought a copy for all of my nieces and nephews. My kids are biracial and I love how the storyline shows that everyone is different and those differences are celebrated. It is also a great book help kids learn their animals too.
