Eugenie Laverne Mitchell writes from the heart. The tales she skilfully weaves spring from a fertile imagination but are coloured by some vaguely similar life observations. She was motivated to start writing, in order to convey messages of hope, grace, truth and love with the aim that her work will in some way be a positive influence upon readers.

A born Storyteller, as a child her creative outlet was into poetry, most of which told short stories. When she became a teenager the poems graduated into songs. She still writes songs today and incorporates some of her song lyrics into her novels.

For example, "Prodigal Daughter" is a song featured in "Philanthropic Ways".

In her early twenties Eugenie began to receive inspiration to write a novel but was just too busy with life and so put off doing so until the compulsion became too strong to ignore and she began to write "WASHED" mostly on weekends and during holidays.

"WASHED" was finally published in 2012 - it has been very well received.

Her second novel, "Philanthropic Ways" was published in 2014 and the third, "Rebel Seed", in 2015.

The fourth novel "The Yard Girl - Sienna's Story" was published on 25 December 2018 and is receiving great reviews.

LOOK OUT for "The Yard Girl II - Miranda's Story" - Now available in ebook and paperback format from Amazon.

Oh, my goodness!!! Is it March? I cannot write my review until, March!

All I can say is that I loved, Loved, LOVED this book so much that I recommend it to all of you who read this prelude to my review ... please, Please, PLEASE, acquire it, I ask you, no, I implore you!

I believe this is such an important book, with so many valuable messages ... you will be moved to smile, laugh, cry, and look at your 'neighbour' in a different light!

Ms. Mitchell and I have been 'friends' on Goodreads since 2016, but we shared our first message together just last week. So, please do not mistaken my encouragement of her work to be anything other than the messages contained in it.

I actually don't know what else to say except, 'The Yard Girl: Sienna's Story' is exceptional, and I am so very much looking forward to reading, 'The Yard Girl: Miranda's Story' in March and hope that there are hundreds, no, thousands, no, at least a million of us raving about this book in a group we create here on Goodreads.

Thank you Ms. Mitchell ... no wonder you feel like family to me!

Another beautiful story from an amazing author.

”What is a colour?...A colour cannot make another cry; a colour cannot cause pain; a colour cannot make one happy or sad. So surely only a fool could hate another purely because of their colour.”

Young Sienna Miller leaves her modest home in Jamaica for an opportunity to study at a prestigious school in London and become a Solicitor. While the scholarship covers lodging, her parents feel that she is too young to live on campus. Her pastor reaches out to a good friend in London—Bishop Gooden—who arranges for Sienna to live with a trusted member of their church, Sister Nelson.

For years, everything is fine. Then, Sister Nelson’s son, Jonathan, shows up unexpectedly and does something that drives a wedge between Sienna and Sister Nelson and forces the young girl out of the only home she’s known in London.

Living with two close friends, Sienna picks up the pieces of her life, determined not to let the bad experience stop her from pursuing her goal. She had been receiving a monthly stipend from the scholarship, which had gone straight to Sister Nelson but now that she’s on her own, she decides that she should get the money directly.

She tracks down the head governor, the one responsible for her scholarship, and pays her a visit at her posh estate. Sienna is delighted to find that Miranda Addison is warm, friendly and helpful. Not only does she assist Sienna in having the bursary transferred, but she generously offers her a job (as the gardener’s assistant) which includes room and board. Sienna has gleefully become The Yard Girl. Oh, but Sienna is about to become so much more than that, too....

I was absolutely and completely immersed in the story immediately. The writing is superb. Mitchell does an exceptional job giving her characters depth and dimension and they practically leap off the pages and come alive. Much like a movie, the story flowed flawlessly at a perfect pace. It was hard to tear myself away each night and I’d find myself getting to bed well past midnight!

The story itself is heartwarming, thought-provoking and memorable. If you think you know what will happen—that it will be a simple story to predict—you are totally incorrect. I cringed in fear, worried for characters when they faced threats and peril. I grew furious by the overt acts of racism. I empathized with the characters; I cheered them on; I marveled at the developments and the amazing revelations. I was utterly invested in this book and was sad to see it end. Although, I am happy to know that a companion book, Miranda’s Story, will soon be available. I truly cannot wait!

I highly recommend this brilliant book.

This was such a lovely written novel that was a delight for me to read. This was my third read by this author. This story was layered to show Sienna, a hard worker, obstacles as well as her achievements while completing her education far away from home. Throughout her trials & tribulations, her prayers, close friends & a compassionate benefactor helped ease her fears and problems. This story touched on different issues including race. The characters were well rounded and the storyline flowed smoothly. This story is one I highly recommend.
