PREFACE This workbook consists of twenty two tests, composed of thirty questions each, based on selected topics and then six more multiple choice tests composed of sixty questions each, based on the entire CSEC syllabus requirement for multiple choice. In all there are over one thousand multiple choice questions. The time expectation for each test is 45 minutes for the first twenty two tests (30 questions each) one and one half hours for the remaining six full tests (60 questions each), similar to the actual CSEC examination. Alongside each question is sufficient writing space for the appropriate computation that may be required. As indicated, the book is a workbook and students are advised to work in the provided space and hence engage in the working practices that are expected in the multiple choice examinations of this kind. The questions span the entire CSEC Mathematics syllabus on the various required topics for this paper, as well as a few simpler ones involving the recollection of basic, useful, relevant and important rules of CSEC Mathematics. The questions may vary in difficulty from test to test. Some questions may even be regarded as quite simple and may require little on no written computation, while others may, by comparison, require in-depth thinking and reasoning and may be considered challenging to even the more prepared candidates. Hence, the time expected for the solutions of questions vary. However, the authors wish to emphasise that the time allocation is deemed adequate for each test and students should try to complete each test within this specified time. The tests may be used in a variety of ways by both students and tutors, as, (i) a classroom exercise (ii) an exercise involving group study (iii) an individual exercise (iv) a test exercise At the end of each test, students are advised to review and revise the topics relating to the questions that may have presented difficulty. This shall enable them to solve problems of a similar nature that may appear in other multiple choice tests in this book as well as on the additional mathematics examination. Whatever method or combination of methods students decide to adopt while using this book, it is recommended that these tests be attempted at the completion of the mathematics course. It is strongly suggested that a systematic approach as well as techniques to improve time management and general overall performance be employed. At the end of each test, candidates may check the answers at the end of the test, so as to gauge their overall performance and seek methods to improve. The book is designed primarily for candidates who are preparing for CSEC Mathematics, but candidates being readied in the said discipline for other examining Boards, such as Ordinary level Mathematics at Cambridge, Oxford, London, SAT etc. shall also find the book extremely useful and helpful. The authors embrace this opportunity to extend their best wishes to all candidates, especially at this level and trust that his efforts, via this book, help towards their overall aim for excellence.
