I received a copy of this book when I graduated High School in 1972 and I've read it many times. It is one of the best stories I've ever read about bravery, struggles, courage, companionship, love, and being a part of something bigger than ourselves. I have given numerous copies to students, my children, and my grandchildren. All have loved it and shared it with others. It makes a gift that keeps on giving.

It reminded me of "A Black Fox Running" -- both good reads with anthropomorphic characters dealing with adversity and challenges from rival critters, humans, foul weather.

I found this book when I was moving books to recarpet a room. It was inscribed to my parents, so I probably got it when I confiscated my mom's poetry and literature books, but I don't remember ever seeing it before. It is a wonderful little book.
