• This eBook is illustrated with 20 illustrations from the original magazine publication. Its introduction details the publication history of the 12 stories it contains.
Robert Leslie Bellem was a prolific American writer who wrote in a variety of genres and for many pulp magazines, especially those of Culture Publications that included mastheads such as “Spicy Detective,” “Spicy Adventure,” “Spicy Western,” and “Spicy Mystery.” His most famous creation was the hardboiled detective Dan Turner, Hollywood Detective, who narrates the stories in the first person in a racy, slangy style that made them very popular at the time. Bellem also wrote at least two novels, of which the best known is “Blue Murder.”
The majority of Dan Turner's stories appeared in a dedicated pulp magazine called “Dan Turner Hollywood Detective” that was later renamed “Hollywood Detective” to accommodate other than Dan Turner stories. “Dan Turner Hollywood Detective” contained both stories never published before and reprints of stories that had been published year earlier in “Spicy detective Stories” and other pulp magazines.
The twelve stories in “Murderer’s Error and Other Cases for Dan Turner, P.I.” are from the April 1942, January 1943, and February 1943 issues of “Dan Turner Hollywood Detective” magazine. The first three are reprints from “Spicy Detective Stories.” Starting with February 1943 all stories are original.
