NICE MERMAIDS FINISH LAST is a series of light-hearted, magical YA novellas with a dash of romance, perfect for fans of ' Just Add Water' and 'Mako Mermaids'!Finn always thought mermaids were a myth… But that was before he grew a tail of his own.
Finding out he’s actually a merman (not to mention the long-lost heir to an ocean kingdom) wasn’t the birthday surprise Finn expected, but he isn’t about to let his new mer powers wreck his life. And if he can manage to keep his transformations under control, he just might be able to pull this off.
But as he spends more time in the water with Lorelei, learning to control his new magic, Finn finds it more and more difficult to keep his mer-life and his regular life in balance.
Meanwhile, Lorelei is more determined than ever to persuade Prince Finn to return to Aquata once and for all… Or is she?
After getting closer to Finn and his adopted family, Lorelei begins to realize that Finn’s life on land may be more precious than she thought. Soon, Lorelei is torn between her concern for Finn and her desire to return home.
But when someone from the past swims in with dire news from Aquata, Lorelei and Finn are swept into a riptide of danger.
This is Book 3 of the NICE MERMAIDS FINISH LAST series. Each novella is an episode in an ongoing story, so grab the box set (which contains Books 1-3) or feel free to read book by book!
Lorelei’s best friend Pearl finds her in the middle of training Prince Finn in the ways of being a mer and tells her that she is a wanted mer. She needs to return now to Aquata to clear her name or she will risk expulsion from the magic academy and possible banishment from the mermaid city. The only problem is that everything she is charged with is true.
I’m assuming there are further books being planned since there are far too many threads not tied off in this book. Everything is left rather up in the air, and even have a villain introduced at the end. That said, I am hoping for more installments on this series so we can find out what happens to the characters. I have so many questions for the future! I think the largest issue I had with this particular installment was that it felt like there was a chapter missing. There’s a glaring gap between the action at the end and then it just cuts to the next day. Seriously, what happened in between? It went from several characters about to die to everything being fine the next day. There were also some other points I had trouble with. Like Lorelei suddenly went from needing to save Aquata from a corrupt ruler, and having to save the humans from the soldiers, to being bored on land, and the urgency gone for no explanation I saw (in fact, the battle hadn’t even ended when the scene cut out). The romance triangle is cute and echoes the original Little Mermaid tale nicely. In all, I am hoping for future books in this cute series and this is a fun, light read for mermaid fans.
