HUW POWELL is a children’s author from North Somerset in the UK. Spacejackers is his middle-grade debut book series published by Bloomsbury and W F Howes in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The first novel was Literature Work's 'Book of the Month' in August 2014 and it was short-listed for Teach Primary's 'New Children's Fiction Award' in 2015. Huw is an active supporter of initiatives that encourage children to read. He lives with his wife and two sons in Portishead.
This was a great way to tie up many loose ends from the first two books! Jake Cutler really comes into his own with plenty of space battles, sneaky tricks, and edge-of-your-seat adventure that makes it hard to put down. It seems like this series is a hidden gem and not well-known, but it's a real winner! I'm sad there's not much more from this author, he does a great job!
In The Pirate King, Huw Powell launches readers into the thrilling, action-packed conclusion of the SpaceJackers trilogy with all guns blazing. The galaxy is at war, and teenage space pirate Jake Cutler is its unlikely heart. With his friends captured and the corrupt Interstellar Government tightening its grip, Jake must go into battle alone to take down the regime once and for all. But to win, he must first find his long-lost father and confront the explosive secrets of his own past.
Powell delivers a masterclass in space-opera storytelling, balancing massive, cinematic space battles with intimate character moments and a plot full of clever twists. Jake’s journey from orphaned cabin boy to the legendary “Pirate King” is completed with heart, courage, and plenty of swashbuckling spirit. The stakes have never been higher, the action never more relentless, and the emotional payoff is perfectly earned.
A stellar, explosive, and utterly satisfying finale that cements the SpaceJackers series as a modern classic for fans of Star Wars, pirates, and unforgettable adventures among the stars.
