The Fae of Boots and Laces is a solid short story that follows the little family of Sarah, Jim, Maggie, and Albert, set just before the turn of the 20th century. Things aren’t so great for our little family, and when tragedy strikes, it seems all is lost. But the power of prayer, a little girl’s dreams, and a miracle may be just what the doctor ordered. Who knows what Santa will bring for Christmas? This one warms the heart.
This story starts off as a normal historical fiction set at the end of the 19th century and s measles outbreak. Wisps of fantasy are slowly added in with talk of faeries. You will not regret buying this story which is wonderfully written by s great storyteller.
Delightful Christmas Tale of Hope and Miracles The Fae of Boots and Laces tells the touching short story of a family struggling to survive in the land of milk and honey-- New York City, late 19th century. Life in the city is anything but sunshine and lollipops as Jim and Sarah struggle to provide shelter and food for their family. Their son is stricken with smallpox and his recovery becomes doubtful. Jim and Sarah come to the grim reality that a shoe cobbler cannot compete against the machines of mass production. Although despair looms over the family, daughter Maggie prays and never gives up hope that a miracle is coming. This story is beautifully written and has a wonderful heartwarming appeal especially at Christmas. A good read for everyone.
A lovely short tale about tenement life in New York at the end of the 19th century. Cobbler Jim, his teacher wife Sarah, and their young children Maggie and Albert, eke out a living. And then Albert gets smallpox - the entire family is in danger of infection. Just when it seems that all is lost Maggie helps to save the day in a most surprising way. Sometimes you just want to read a book that will put a smile on your face - this definitely does the job!
Such an endearing story. This is a brilliantly written story that will pull at your heart strings! A retelling of the classic fairy tale The Elves and the Shoemaker. This story starts as a family in New York City in the early 1900's. We have a shoemaker who is competing against the new machines. No matter how the little family scrimps and saves they just are not able to pay the bills. To add to their troubles their son contracts smallpox, He has little chance to survive. They are losing their battle against survival and will be left on the streets with a dying son. Their daughter prays for a miracle, and I too prayed with her. This is a brilliant author. More than brilliant she is an outstanding storyteller with the gift to turn her story telling skills to paper. This is a unique gift of its own. I highly recommend this novel; I hope to be able to read more of her stories and share with my children.
