Edgar DeWitt Jones as a Disciples of Christ minister, serving congregations in Kentucky, Ohio, and Illinois, before being called in 1920 to be the Minister of Central Christian Church of Detroit, MI. In 1926 Central Christian Churche merged with another congregation to form Central Woodward Christian Church. He would serve as pastor of this church from 1926 until his retirement in 1946.
He was a well known religious leader in Detroit and nationally, serving as President of the Federal Council of Churches in the 1930s. He was also a scholar and collector of memorabilia of Abraham Lincoln.
