After writing Good Blood, it was refreshing to tackle a shorter work set in an already established world. This tells a small tale in a corner of Terene that has big consequences. It is the spark that sets the story in motion.

really quick read and sets the stage pretty well for Good Blood. I'm only sad there's no more to read for now :(

Requiem for House Octavian is a short prequel to Good Blood (Descendants of Terene, #1) and it's a perfect appetizer for Allen's full-length debut.

The story revolves around Ressa, a young Descendant whose musical skills are almost as magical as her actual blood, faced with the prospect of being permanently separated from her mother and the home she's known all her life.

The story is paced well and does some impressive world-building in a very short amount of time. Allen avoids the typical exposition dump you see at the beginning of so many Young Adult/ Fantasy novels by allowing us to learn with the semi-naive protagonist. He trusts his audience enough to show us the values and attitudes of his characters through their actions and the world he creates is one you'll want to spend time in.

If you haven't read "Good Blood" yet then Requiem is a lovely introduction and if you have had the pleasure of reading "Good Blood," you'll find "Requiem for House Octavian" a wonderful companion to flushing out Allen's exciting new world.

Read it today. It's $2 for the Kindle version, what are you waiting for!?!

In my experience short stories are really hit or miss. Having just finished Good Blood I was excited to jump right in to the Requiem for House Octavian. In a word it was fantastic, Allen spins so much character development and storytelling here that it’s nearly incomprehensible. I was already excited to continue this series, but now it’s jumped up to nearly the top of too read list.

Stellar short story that was easily read in one sitting. Gave a great background to Spade which was fun to learn about after just finishing Good Blood. Excited to learn more about the Descendant’s past as I begin Dark Blood!

I love this series!!!

This was a great read after I finished the second book in this series. It gave some great background and depth to one of the main characters whom I love even more now. I cannot wait for the next book!
