Lyall Harris Powers (1924–2018) was a professor of English at the University of Michigan, where he taught since 1958. He was granted emeritus status by the University's Regents during their October 1992 meeting.
Dr. Powers published extensively while teaching and his criticism of North American literature won wide recognition, including the award of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1984. His major focus was Henry James, and he worked with his mentor Leon Edel on several projects.
