This is a reference book, so I didn't actually read it from cover to cover. But what you have here is Swindoll's illustration file, topically arranged. It's a valuable resource for any public speaker.
I love the parables in this book. I refer to it often if I need material for a speech/story I need to share/talk about. It was and is well worth the money, and something that can be used over and over again!
This is not a "read it from cover-to-cover" book, but one to pick up and dive in anywhere, read a good story or two, find something about a subject that is on your mind.
Lots of encouraging stories and quotes on a lot of different subjects.
I previously read bits and pieces of this and have used some excerpts for sermons, but I decided to read it cover to cover. Charles Swindoll takes a collection of stories, quotes and personal experiences and divides them by topics. I loved it.
This was good, and at times entertaining. I read this mostly for the quotes, and inspirational stories. I'm not much of a poetry reader so those portions for me were dry often times repetitive. I was able to bookmark notable portions within the book that impacted me more than others - so that was a positive result. I'm glad I read this, and would recommend this to people who are looking for an uplifting read.
