For Matthew Adams, the journey begins with his first glimpse of the battered hull of White Wings in the old New England coastal town Marblehead. Determined to possess the dilapidated boat with a need he can't explain, Matthew knows only that his fate is somehow linked to the secret history of White Wings itself. His subsequent attempts to restore the boat to its former glory sweep him into the lives of three indomitable women: the lovely, enigmatic Taylor Hayakawa, White Wings' present owner; her beautiful, head-strong daughter, Rebecca; and Taylor's mother, Becky, the once proud matriarch who vanished at sea many years before. Yet it is Becky who is at the heart of this intricately plotted novel, as piece by fascinating piece, the truth about this unforgettable woman emerges.
Great story. I really liked this book. I would have given it 5 stars but I can't say why I wouldn't or it might ruin the story for others. This was a book I just "happened" to pick up because it sounded interesting and I loved the story of how an old boat needing a lot of work brings together strangers and solves a mystery no one knew really existed. Very interesting indeed.
