Cat's Meow Book 1 Milo is a genius with the understanding of a sixteen year old. He does things he thinks he has thought through but has no clue of the consequences of his actions to himself or others. Milo's does something he thinks is awesome and as his brother Liev witnesses it, he knows not only does he have to fix it he hasn't a clue how.
Dani Summerland's life is finally getting on track, she has a job she likes and now she has a date. Before getting ready she grabs a glass of wine and her cat doing a little bit of a dance, then in a flash of light and what seems to be an explosion she's somewhere else. Not a thing is recognizable except for one of the men standing there. He looks just like her ex, Lawrence.
After running from an inspection, Dani lets loose on both of them.
Even knowing that Liev isn't Lawrence doesn't help the animosity she is feeling for both of them. Her life has been irreversibly altered and she has much to learn about this world of the future.
To top it all off, her cat Charming can talk and is doing many impossible things.
I laughed, cried, held my breath a few times and was totally taken by surprise at the end.
I am so totally hooked now that I bought the other books in this series as a collection. This first book was free so I wasn't really repeating a purchase which is a definite plus in my book.
Cat's Pajamas Book 2 Lani and Liev are now married, in spite of the fact it was a way to protect her, they do seem to be in love. Of course there is no time to even enjoy their wedded bliss as the Council once again demands Liev's presence. This time asking for everyone living with him to attend as well.
Despite that ruling when they arrive the clerk says only Liev was required and he was surprised when he was informed of the marriage. Liev and Milo with their lawyer Hahn go in to face the council leaving Lani in the waiting area. Then things get interesting really quick.
Lani is sitting quietly and observing the people around her when she is approached by a woman, Gina Stewart is one of Hahn's law partners. Unfortunately she appears to also be jealous of Lani. She gets a bit snarky but then leaves, only to return and snatch Lani from her seat and transport her.
Liev and Milo were done with the Council and their lawyer was annoyed, as they enter the waiting area Liev doesn't see Lani. It's then Milo gets a message from Charming Marvin. Dang that cat is showing more and more capabilities.
This is not the end of these attempts either, but bodies start showing up as well.
I love Charming Marvin and I definitely understand Lani's frustration that her cat can do more than her. The talking does help a bit but the rest is just...well strange.
Lani is doing her best to adjust but then things get weird with their unregistered medical pod.
I couldn't put this book down, things start happening fast and furiously as suspects start turning up dead.
There's plenty of action, hold your breath moments, and some sizzling heat as we learn more about what's going on.
Cat's Cradle Book 3 Now that the people trying to get Lani are out of the way speak, Lani is trying to rest while Milo works his magic on the computer. They need to know why Lani was targeted so they can get out from under all the crap they've fallen into. When their friend and neighbor Johan reappears having gone missing when the apartments were raided, he's injured and wants to use the unregistered med machine. Lani is sleeping in it so instead he heads up to his apartment to find something he left behind.
A call for help has Levi and Milo running to his aid, leaving Lani and Charming alone in their apartment. When Charming figures out where the guys are he also registers the trouble they're in. Johan has been killed and his apartment is locked down. The guys can't get out. That is until Lani has a great idea even if Charming resists.
This is just the beginning as more and more subterfuge comes to light. The people they can trust are few, but they have to get to the bottom of all the corruption.
Suspenseful and action-packed with lots of fun antics from Charming as this series winds down to it's conclusion.
Cat's Claus Book 4 Charming wants to know when Christmas is, unfortunately holidays are something that have been made illegal and totally erases here in the twenty third century. Lani misses the holidays too, so she starts researching decorations on the old computer she's using to get up to speed on things in this life. Of course this sets off all sorts of alarms and flags. She wants to do this not only for herself and Charming but also add something special to her life with Liev.
Then of course we have Charming, he's such a little instigator. It was truly amusing to watch an exchange between Lani and him over cans of salmon.
Some interesting conversations with Steven their friend in government who is now sorting out the corruption discovered in the Council. Charming's next order of Salmon, Lani's gift for Liev, Milo's research and Liev finding a way for Christmas, all make for a delightful tale.
There are some tense moments that came as a bit of a surprise. However, they add just the right amount of suspense to the story.
I'm sorry this series ended, I think I'd like more of these characters.
A charming series that will keep you addicted all of the ways through.
#1 Cat's Meow - 3*
Dani Summerland has just turned the corner in her life when she is suddenly propelled into the future while holding in her arms her orange Persian cat, Charmin Marvin. Levi Blackburn tries to rein back his younger brother Milo in order to not break the strict government regulations but unknown to him Milo has been working on a secret project to get him a surprise present - Dani - who is a woman from the past that Levi has been fixated on for as long as he can remember. What he never anticipated was that she would arrive with a snarky talking cat. Can Dani adapt to the future and will Levi forgive Milo for this deliberate breaking of the strict rules?
This is a sweet novella that was a pleasant read. I'm hoping there is more detail about some of the restrictions in the future as the series progresses. Reasonably well written it was easy to understand and follow what was happening. An enjoyable introduction to the series.
#2 Cat’s Pajamas - 4*
Dani Summerland may have come from the past, but to save both their skins she marries Levi Blackburn. However, they are both pawns in a game with no rule book. Levi Blackburn is a lucky man who still can't believe he is married but they need to find out who exactly is after Dani so that they can have their long-anticipated honeymoon. However, as they struggle to find out who it is targeting them, the danger also escalates and people start dying. Thank goodness her talking cat Charmin Marvin is on their side and helping them - they'll need to break even more protocols, but if they don't their lives will be broken too.
I loved this story which has more detail and was more enjoyable than the first one. I liked the level of detail and the style of writing which was very clear and easy to understand. You need to have read the first book in order to understand the background of this one.
#3 Cat's Cradle - 4*
Dani and Levi Blackburn are out of the frying pan and into the fire as they start to uncover suggestions of a dangerous conspiracy that will lead right back to the foundation of their society and involve every single part of normal life. Can the get to the bottom of it and expose something that will shake society right through to its very core? People start to disappear and if it were not for the help of Milo (Levi's genius brother) and Charmin Marvin the talking cat they would also be missing if not dead by now. Whoever is behind all of this is weaving a complicated cat's cradle and unless they can find a way to expose the cover-up they will be next.
Wow - Dani is definitely coming into her own in this book and without intending to, becomes the main character in sorting some of this all out (even though she still can't use the modern tech that surrounds her). I loved the way the story developed and the ending was very powerful. Well written and easy to understand, it was easy to become addicted as you became desperate to find out what was going to happen next. Does contain a little sexual content but nothing detailed.
#4 Cat's Claus - 4*
Dani Blackburn realises that although she has gained a great deal being pulled 200 years into the future by her husband Levi's slightly abnormal, genius brother Milo, she has also lost a great deal when cat Charmin Marvin asks when Christmas Day will be in their new timeframe. It appears that all holidays were banned by the government a long time ago and Livi and Milo have no idea what they are talking about. Having done some research, Levi wonders if the can bring it back - even if it is just for their small family. However, those good intentions bring on a chain of reactions in a world that no longer tolerates such things when internet searches set off alarms. Can they get back on track and give Dani and Charmin Marvin the Christmas they crave?
This was a really sweet festive story that clearly showed how things have changed in the future and the trouble that this small family will go to for each other to give a little happiness. I loved the ending and the fact that they worked out more of how they could live together and have fulfilling lives. Well written and easy to understand.
Here are all four Broken Protocols novellas in one place. The first three should definitely be read together to make up a decent, whole story. The fourth is a brief, add on Christmas tale. Overall, I don’t believe any one part stands alone very well but all read in order, it makes a fair effort in average storytelling. NOTE: The audiobook version of this series has been updated and re-edited for general improvement.
Awesome read..love it...Great futuristic romance!!! Great cat....was really wonderful read. You will love this books I read a!! 4 in one night... Book hangover!
I had a good time reading this series. It did not receive a 5- star rating due to grammatical errors. But the charade both interesting and likable, as well as unique!
