Rate this book
Left alone by her new husband, Cheyenne Edson has carved out a life for herself in the Utah Territory. Since her husband has not returned in three long years, and the word around town is that she’s alone, she’s become the target of every foul-mouthed, randy cowhand around. She has nothing to protect herself from these predators but her old shotgun and her half-breed dog, Demon. When the enigmatic stranger, Theodore “Tipp” McCloud, comes to her cabin and offers his help, Cheyenne’s first reaction is to draw on him. Tipp leaves, but he takes a piece of Cheyenne with him. She can’t get the handsome stranger out of her mind. Cheyenne needn’t worried. Tipp isn’t going anywhere—not without the woman who has a walk like slow-pouring honey and a voice to match. He vows nothing or no one will keep him from tasting her honey—not threats of her shotgun, attacks by her demon dog, so aptly named, or if he has to take on the men who surround her like flies on Sherbet--Hell, he's determined that prize is his!

It's hard to wrap my mind around the social norms and customs of the historical old West, specifically as it concerns women. I can't imagine having to constantly be on guard like Cheyenne. Meeting Tipp was a miracle she needed. Tipp embodies the concept of protecting and providing for a person. His careful planning and immense patience were just as sexy as I imagine he physically looked chopping wood (lol). I usually connect most with the female protagonist in stories, but Tipp was my favorite character in this book. Can I get one, please???

I received an ARC copy of this book and voluntarily chose to leave a review.

As ever, Ms Ephraime takes us on an thrilling journey. I love One Hell of Ride, the previous book featuring Cas and Joe, and was thrilled to see Tipp get his own story (I have a soft spot for him!). A woman alone - except for her awesome dog, Demon - after her husband of one day upped and left three years previously, never to be seen again, Cheyenne Edson is managing to eke out an existence - only just. Her uncertain status leaves her vulnerable to lecherous cowhands, making even the simple task of buying supplies, fraught. Newcomer, Tipp McCloud witnesses one such run-in, and something about the young woman pulls at him, prompting him to find out where she lives - after dealing with the reprobates, of course! Wary of the stranger, Cheyenne struggles to trust his motives, but slowly he breaks through her barriers.
Set against the backdrop of the unforgiving Utah wilderness, Ms Ephraime has captured the hardships of pioneer life and the struggle to survive, which complements the joy and promise of the blossoming romance beautifully. Surrounded by a fascinating cast of characters, from the dropkick cowhands to the wise old medicine woman, to the unpredictable wolf-dog, One Hell of a Prize is a fast paced, exciting and colourful story offering the perfect balance of adventure, romance and sizzle!

Alone, scared, and having to fight off every man in the Territory, Cheyenne doesn't know what to do when the man she married up and leaves in search of a better life of maybe finding gold.
Not that she wanted to make the long trek into town but in a need of supplies, Cheyenne meets Tipp. He was there at the right moment in time to help thwart off some cowboys who were antagonizing Cheyenne for fun.
Although Tipp saved her hide that day, Cheyenne wasn't too trusting of him. Not that anyone could blame her especially after what her husband had done.
Through time, Tipp and Cheyenne's friendship blossomed into love....and what a sweet love it was.
I would recommend this book, well heck, I would recommend every book that Ms. Ephraime has written. She is one of the most talented authors I've come across. I think anyone who wants a page turner, no stopping until the end type of reading definitely needs to start one clicking all her books.

When Cheyenne's husband left to search for gold shortly after their marriage of convenience, he left to her fend for herself in the world, prey for every lonely, horny man in the Utah Territory. After three years and no word, she wonders if the husband she doesn't really even know might be dead.

She meets Tipp by chance one day when she's forced out of necessity to make the dreaded trip into town for supplies. Although he rescues her from the unwanted attention of some nasty cowboys, she's determined not to trust him.

The story that unfolds is heartbreakingly sweet and romantic, and to say more than that would just spoil what is a great follow-up to One Hell of a Ride. Don't miss One Hell of a Prize.

Did I say Ju Ephraime is one of my favorite authors? She is, hands down. I read One Hell of a Ride, the first book in this two part series. I liked the main character in this story, Tipp and was curious to see how the author would portray him. I was not disappointed. I love him even more in this. I love the way he thinks and takes charge, all alpha male. And boy, the bedroom scenes are HOT. No one writes a bedroom scene like Ephraime, okay, Kleypas does. I had to stop several time to take a breather. LOL

Cheyenne and Tipp's story is filled with suspense and detailed descriptions that transport you to Utah in the mountains. Her husband left her to find his fortune and three years have passed without a word from him. She's strong and doesn't trust easily, yet is difficult to deal with the rowdy cowhands that want to take advantage of her uncertain status. Tipp is a newcomer and feels intrigued by Cheyenne vowing to get to know her.
The western background and the characters were incredible, I want a Demon of my own! It's fast-paced, exciting, with adventure, romance, and sizzle.

This was an interesting story. Cheyenne was stronger than she thought she was but also smart enough to accept the gifts coming her way. Tipp felt instant attraction to Cheyenne and was wonderful as he wooed her. I liked the progression to their HEA. I thought this story could have been better with some editing to get rid of the overuse of some phrases.

I received a copy of this story through Candid Book Reviews, and this is my unsolicited review.

I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down once I began reading it. Cheyenne, even though she is young, is strong. Tipp is a true gentleman, and also a tough outdoorsman. This book showed me that I couldn’t survive living in a remote cabin. Also, that love happens when you aren’t expecting it.

This was really good and sucked me in to read it all in one sitting. I really loved the characters, and their live was so sweet. The reluctance and wooing was adorable. I don’t usually like historical romances, but I really liked this! I have not read the first book in this series, but that was not a problem at all. Great writing, steamy romance, and great plot. Yay!

This is a good read but feels too dated in my opinion. It's very simply written but the storyline is well done.

When I sat down to read this Western Historical Romance I could not put it down.
I could feel what life was like living in a cabin in the mountain in a western setting and bathing in the hot springs.
The passionate love story of Cheyenne and Tipp, filled with authentic detail and suspense, will remain in my mind for a very long time.
Cheyenne’s dog, Demon is also unforgettable.
Author Ju Ephraime is a brilliant and talented author who knows how to keep a reader turning the pages.
I highly recommend it.
