Movie director Quentin Wainwright was everything Chara Styles despised in a man - sophisticated, world-weary, harsh - and he claimed her as his wife with the air of a born conquerer.
She tried to resist, but his silver quartz eyes pierced her defenses, and a touch of blackmail sealed her fate. She was a bartered bride who hungered for her hated husband's kisses, for the decadent luxury and forbidden delights she had never known before. How could she be so easily seduced? She could run across the world, find fame and success, but could she escape him? Had she lost her very heart and soul to the fires that threatened to consume them both?
We get endless arguments about the same thing, five to six pages per, and then big things, like their getting married and her moving to London to become a supermodel (she was previously a paralegal), get like a half-page each. Why? Oh, also he's toxic, their relationship is toxic, and she's a total ninny.
Love??? HAH!! No one could possibly love either of them, their personalities are both so crappy!! The h is in her mid 20's but acts like a defiant, snarky teenaged brat, and the H manipulated her into marriage and treats her like a doll he can dress (and undress) whenever it suits him. They both seem to get their kicks out of goading each other, and most likely think of fighting as foreplay.
Then you get the usual stuff: she misunderstands a conversation, runs away (to another country, no less), he follows her (he'd been keeping tabs on her) then it's the same old stuff again.
Only a fool would believe these two get a HEA, even HFN was wishful thinking!
