Way Home #3

Run from Home

Rate this book
If only running away from each other was as easy as it sounds.

Twiz

I know who I am and what kind of violence I’m capable of. Which is why, no matter how badly I want to take this feisty redhead and keep her, I can’t.

When I run with her, though, I see a way to escape the reality of my career crashing down around me. When she’s threatened, it’s all I can do not to take her home with me always to keep her safe.

But then, who will keep her safe from me?

Erika

I promised myself I wouldn’t fall in love with the soldier. I live for control, but he keeps insisting on taking it all away and the worst part is, I want him to have it. I may not need a knight in shining armour, but this battle worn grunt in dusty combat boots is trying to rescue me anyways.

I know that he’s not the monster he thinks he is.

Now, I just have to get him to see that before we both run too far to find our way back to each other.

Run From Home is the third novel in the Way Home Series but can be read as a stand-alone with its own couple and HEA.

This book is intended for readers 18+ and deals with themes that include combat-related PTSD, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

Kim Mills intended to grow up to be a psychologist with a loft apartment and 3 cats. Instead she dropped out of college and married a teenage soldier and had babies. No one ever asks her to speak on career day.

After working and volunteering in Social Services for years, Kim began writing in 2011 on what is now the Canadian military family blog She is Fierce. Somehow, that led her here. No one is more surprised than she is.

You can find Kim with the childhood sweetheart she's been married to for over 15 years, along with her 3 kids and their border collie Trooper, making home wherever the army sends them.

Lusty, escapist, perfect for the beach or wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of tea. Looking forward to the next in the series!

I could not put this book down. I finished it within the same day and only took breaks when it was getting too emotional for me to keep reading through the tears!! I can’t get over the story and how real it is. It’s very emotional. It’s powerful, romantic, sexy, funny and also heartbreaking and sad. There are a lot of emotions packed full in this book, ready to be brought out. Once you start reading, you won’t be able to hold them back. Kim always pays special attention to the details and seriously does her homework when it comes to proper terms and accuracy that really helps paint a picture. You can tell that she really put her heart into this story. I cannot say enough good things about it! When you read it- and I recommend that you do- don't stop at the end of the epilogue, read the author's notes too.

This may be the third book in the series, but you won't be able to put it down. The emotion, the story telling, the characters, they're all incredible and you will feel like they're friends you know! The depth of the story, gripping you and making you want to shout at Twiz and Erika all the things you can see from the outside. The characters from these stories feel like old friends, ones posted across the country who I know so deeply. That's how personal and touching Kim's writing is. I couldn't love this book more, and just as equally as All The Way Home and Fight For Home.
Whatever you're reading, toss it aside, you absolutely need to read these novels!

This one was a bit harder to read than the first two in the series, mainly because the level of the traumas the main characters experienced in their pasts is so much more intense and sad. I think Mills has done a terrific job, although as I said, it was harder for me to read.

I recommend with caution for those who are triggered by emotional and sexual abuse and trauma from deaths both civilian and war zone. Definitely a book for adults.

What I truly liked about this story is how it didn’t mask the effects of PTSD, and the different experiences it can develop from, and the many forms it can take. I loved how the focus wasn’t on fixing, but healing, and recognizing limitations and support needed. The need for found family when circumstances find you isolated, and developing instincts to reach out when struggling. The relationship between our couple seems straightforward, until the surfaces are scratched. That they have a devil-may-care attitude and ready smiles hiding the murkiness swirling beneath. Twiz and Erika ended up together by chance, but it was the draw they couldn’t ignore that kept them coming back together again, and again, and finally, forever <3

Wow just wow Kim , once again you have grabbed every single bit of my attention with Erika and Twiz’s story . Run from Home is the third book in the Way Home Series by Kim Mills, Canadian Military spouse and author . I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this series as I’m sure she enjoyed writing it . Everything that happens is so very true . A love story mixed in with domestic violence and ptsd. There were so many mixed emotions while reading this one that I had a hard time putting it down . I absolutely cannot wait to read book 4 coming out this winter .

I read this in one day. The passion the main characters had for each other and the efforts they went through to hide themselves and their pasts from each other is intense. I wasn't sure if they would end up together at the end because of all Twiz and Erika were going through individually. There were some heavy topics covered but the community and family that the characters have is amazing and brings everything together with hope and a future in the end.

I loved this book. All 3 of these books are a MUST read!
So much happens in Run From Home and she makes it flow. Not once was I confused or forced to go back and read sections again to keep up. All her characters draw you in, leaving you feel like a part of the group, and are well developed. The story itself sucks you in, I seriously can't wait for book 4!

This book was fantastic. So many feels throughout the entire thing. I love the characters in these books, how they are family by choice, not by blood, and would do anything for one another. Being married to a soldier myself, so many things hit home with these stories, and so many emotions are brought forth. I’d definitely recommend this book.

Finished this the same day I started out because I didn't want to put it down. Romance Novels are not my usual read but I love Kim's perspective on military life, and I've blown through each of her novels in The Way Home series.

The subject matter in this one may be triggering for some, and it's definitely not for anyone sensitive about what kind of language is used.

Kim creates characters that feel like they’ve been your friends for years! This is a very relatable and honest story, she’s tackled some really tough subjects and shown the commitment that CF memebers have for each other and the people they love. I can’t wait for the next book!

This is the 3rd Novel in Kim’s Way Home Series and like the first two in the series this one was amazing.

I have always enjoyed Historical Fiction interwoven with Fictional Characters as I feel that I learn something through their story. While Kim’s Characters are Fictional, her “history” is mine. I have never felt such a gamut of emotions when reading a book until I picked up hers. The reason I say this while they are a Romance Novel in setting they are based on Canadian Soldiers and events that I have lived through being married to a Canadian Military member. The experiences and frustrations, I know. I can relate to the characters as I have experienced some of those experiences myself.

Kim has an amazing talent at writing what is real! I completely blame her for making me cry on a very crowded BC Ferry ride while reading this book.

I promise you will not be disappointed with this series, it is heartfelt and well researched, but be prepared to feel!

I cannot wait for the next book in this amazingly inspiring series!
