Le récit de Simpson, Chair et herbe, nous plonge dans un monde macabre, peuplé de personnages sinistres : un chef cuisinier avec de drôles de recettes, un médecin pervers qui se livre à des machinations douteuses, une fillette assassinée dans la forêt... Tissé d'ambiances étranges, avec un style des plus insolites, ce texte nous entraîne dans un univers décidément inquiétant.

The Strawberry tree is a short novel about Petra Summers, an attractive middle-aged woman with a past which is beginning to come back to haunt her.

Rendell's Strawberry Tree was okay. The story is good but the haunted house and what happened to the narrator there really has no point to the rest of the story. However, Simpson's Flesh and Grass...oh my... I digested this one completely (lol). With vivid imagery and unforgettable characters one small town's deep, dirty, dark secrets come to the light.

I highly recommend.

Ruth Rendell's story was ok/good. The second story by Helen Simpson turned out to be not well written. I was disappointed by the structure itself, and couldn't really grasp what I was reading. So I just scrapped it, and decided to not waste my time any more. My rating of the book is solely based on the first story.
