The development of a large export trade in vheat and increasing competition in the markets of the world hawaserved to emphasize the value of Quality in Canadian wheat. More and more, this is the factor which determines whether or not a market once gained can be held, and for that reason the effect of harvesting methods on quality of wheat is one of very great economic importance. The coming of the combine harvester into western Canada in the years 1925-29 served to focus the atten tion of all concerned on the efficacy of this method of harvest ing, particularly from the standint of Quality. This was only natural because the economy of Operation was such as to recommend it, providing it was capable of turning out a high quality of wheat under a Wide range of topographic and climatic conditions.
