Some computers can do calculations in space, beat contestants at Jeopardy!, and create complex images and videos. Inside Computers introduces readers to the uses of computers, the hardware and software that make computers possible, and the future of computer technology.Easy-to-read text, vivid images, and helpful back matter give readers a clear look at this subject. Features include a table of contents, infographics, a glossary, additional resources, and an index. Aligned to Common Core Standards and correlated to state standards.
Who wrote this staccato set of sentences? There is no flow to help readers get through the large amount of info in this small book. "A computer is a machine. It does four basic things. First, it receives input. Input is information that comes into a computer." "Processors control a computer. The average computer has one or two processors. A supercomputer has millions of processors. It is very powerful." Both of these quotes are on the same page, along with a whole bunch more and zero pictures to break it up. I don't recommend this book for any library, since I am positive there are better ways to spend $23.
48 pgs. This book takes a closer look at what makes a computer work. It focuses on the components, systems, and software for a basic computer. I learned a lot even though I have used computers for many years. I think it is very up-to-date and will be helpful for reports or basic understanding of the computer as a machine for students. Highly recommended for Grades 4-6.
