Kate Frost has wanted to be an author ever since she wrote her first novel during the long months she spent off school following open heart surgery when she was seven. The novel was called London's Burning and was a time travel story set during the Great Fire of London.
Over the years Kate has worked in a cinema, a bookshop, a factory and as a part time lecturer at Bath Spa University teaching lifewriting to Creative Writing undergraduates. She's also worked as ground staff at Edgebaston Tennis Tournament, as a Virgin Vie consultant and as a Supporting Artist in the films Vanity Fair, King Arthur and The Duchess.
Kate has a MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University and has had articles and short stories published in The London Magazine, New Welsh Review and QWF. She now works as a freelance writer/author and lives in the UK with her husband, her son and their dog.
I found this really compelling -- the emotions felt by the characters seemed true to life, and made me feel great empathy with them. The family situations should appeal to a lot of readers too. The writing is suitably pacy, and flows easily. The sense of place is fantastic, and still hangs around in my mind.
I read The Butterfly Storm and loved it, so couldn't wait to read The Birdsong Promise. What can I say? It was even better than the first book! Sophie and Alekos have created a new life in Greece, far away from his interfering mother, with their adorable 3-year-old daughter, Thea. Then Sophie goes back to the UK for her mum's hen do, and finds herself thrown back into her turbulent past. The author draws you in with her descriptions of Greece, the food, the people, the culture, so that you feel as though you are there, alongside the characters. All of the people from the first book are here, together with a couple of new characters, it's like seeing old friends after a long absence. I love the style of writing, the descriptions, and the easy-flowing narrative, and hope the author writes more of these stories so we can follow Sophie and Alekos' life in Greece. Highly recommend.
This is a really good book, i started reading it straight after i'd read butterfly storm! I read it in 4 days! I liked Alekos and sophie, the book has its ups and downs in places, but i do like Kate Frosts books! Had tears in my eyes at one point! Wishing i was in Kefalonia right now! Fab ending to the book!
Really enjoyed this sequel, it finished their journey with twists. Characters came alive, and made you feel you were part of the story. Another wonderful story Katie Frost. Can’t wait to read more of your books!
I really enjoy these books. I read this book in a day it's so hard to put down. I love all the characters but I think leila is my favourite. Can't wait to start book three.
Really enjoyable read. Like the first book this was just as good. I love how the story carried on but three years in. Was lovely to see how Alekos and Sophie had built an amazing life in Greece. Really lovely enjoyable read.
