“Making a castle isn’t the tough part,” my ten year old son told me, as waves approached the beach. “Watching it dissolve away is.”
This book is one of those books which can refresh your mind in an instant. Reading those small but beautiful micro tales refresh my mind. The book is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, one tale can make you smile and another can make you shed tears, one can leave you awed and the other can cause a cold shiver run down your spine. This book is a perfect amalgamation of love, horror, comedy, tragedy, humor, romance and is definitely a must read.
This book contains incidents which happen in our life but we seem to have ignored them but I'm so glad that Author took note of them and weaved this beautiful book. There are so many stories in this books which are worth reading and re-reading. I really loved how this book kept me hooked until the end and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Book Title: Small is Big - Volume 1 & 2 Author: Rafaa Dalvi Format: Kindle & Paperback
Book Title: The book's title ' Small is Big ' is short yet meaningful and positive.
Book Cover: The cover image of the book of both the volumes though differs in background color is a Soldier Pawn placed before a mirror and the image is of a King pawn. The image explains the attitude everyone has to develop in spite of the situations and conditions.
About the book: The book ' Small is Big - Volume 1 & 2, is a collection of inspiring, thought-provoking and empowering micro tales that range from A to Z of life's situations and emotions. Every micro tale in both books is insightful about life and life related experiences. Some of the tales serve as self-realization techniques that can be adapted by people of any age. The best part of both the books is that it can be read by a person of any age i.e. teenage to an elderly person.
One of the finest thing in the narration is the micro tales are unbiased towards every comparative variable of life.
What I like: 1. The novel concept of micro tales in both the books 2. The tone of each tale is very effective 3. Various topics are chosen in writing the tales
What I didn't like: A more interesting and artistic representation of the beautifully penned micro tales would have created more impact than now.
Language & Grammar: Colloquial and literary language both are used with flawless vocabulary.
My Final Verdict: Perfect read on a dull evening to enhance the mood
Book Title: 4/5 Book Cover: 4/5 About the book: 4/5 Language & Grammar: 4/5 Final Rating: 4/5
Small is Big Volume 2 is the first book by the author which I have read and I really liked it a lot . The book is a collection of 100 micro tales . These tales are based on different themes - love , acceptance, thriller and many more. Each tale his different from the other and has something unique which will make the reader remember it for a long time . Most of the stories had a twist in the latter half which makes the reader shock and surprised at the same time.
The cover of the book is good and the title is also short and crisp . The blurb gives an insight to the readers about what the book holds. The narration of each tale is good and the language is lucid.
The best part about the book is that the author has expressed a lot in just few words. Expressing onself in few words is an art and I can't deny the fact the author is undoubtedly an artist. Although each of the micro tale is a gem in itself , my favourite ones include - Scatter Replace The crossing Sneak Respect Sick Sorry One Promise Lovely Day Name
There was a depth in each tale which can make any reader to want more of it . The only thing I didn't like was that the number of micro tales were too less. I was so engrossed in the tales that when I finished I wanted to read some more.
In short a very refreshing, light and a quick read.
Storytelling is dynamically evolving everyday. In the ongoing rat race of life, the shorter formats are slowly gaining prominence.Micro-fiction remains one of my favorite formats. Narrating a story comprising of a beginning, ending and the middle barring few words and characters is difficult and at the same time challenges your literary mettle.
'Small is Big' is a collection of hundred micro-tales presented in a chronological order. They are not based on common concepts doing rounds on social media but are unique and unusual in their own ways. The ending of each of them will take you by surprise and keep you guessing at your wit's end.
The micro-tales encompass genres like love, comedy, horror, tragedy that will enthrall you and at the same time make you contemplate things in general. In short, they are a reflection of life.
Your lips will curl into a smile on reading few of them while some of them will leave you with a lump in your throat. The humour quotient in the book is equally witty and dark. Some of them are left to be interpreted by the readers.
The language is relatively simple but ends up conveying a lot of emotions. The experience of reading can be enhanced if the tales are read at a slow pace savouring the essence in them.
❤Small Is Big Volume 2❤ This is again a beautiful collection of 100 micro tales but I must appreciate the author because each and every tale is different from other and no tale is repeated. . These tales are extremely heartbreaking and at the same time they are science oriented. I m in love with the author's writing and as the book ended I felt a grief because I wanted to read more. I wanted to continue. I am in deep relation with his words. . I think if you are not a reader then also you can easily relate with it. Readers of all ages should read this at least once. Everything is worthy, every tale is worthy. Some tales just didn't worked for me. But, a lot of them had the potential to make the reader think and that is a big thing definitely. I will definitely recommend it, go for it. . Rating : 3.75🌟
Wow!!! I mean, a book with micro tales can be such impressive? I really enjoyed reading this book.
"Small is Big" by Rafaa Dalvi is a collection of 100 micro tales. This book contains every emotion- hurt, guilt, love, romance, hate, etc. It seems like every tale wants to tell something, wants to express.
My favourite one is:
SCATTER
His wife scattered his ashes into Ganga. The wind blew the ash directly into her eyes. "He never leaves a chance to annoy me," she grumbled.
The book cover is quite good, but I didn't liked the title of the book much.
Small Is Big is a collection of micro tales that span a variety of topics.
I loved their diversity and the fact that despite being so short, they were complete. Not one of those tales felt as if they'd been left halfway or incomplete.
Some of the tales were sweet while some were downright creepy. Collectively, it was a pretty balanced amalgamation of genres and topics.
My favourite tales were "Applaud," "Sorry" and "Believe". Though the others were just as exceptional.
I'd definitely recommend you to give this collection a shot.
Small is big is the combination of 100 short stories, which gives u a different I in every story with so little words. Raffa Dalvi penned down all the stories so beautifully. My fav. Are " FROM DUSk TILL DAWN " " FREE" "MISTRESS" "MEMORY". .
A collection of 100 micro tales, with easy language and meaningful. All the tales were relatable and sensitive meaning. The tales connect to various situtations with great impact. I appreciate the author to explain soo much in less words
I will keep my reviews with limited words like the book. Book consists of microtales on different subjects such memories, love, social issues, etc. I loved the book because writing microtales are not easy, you have to play with limited words and story has to be completed in those 4-5 lines, and with this author has written wonderful stories on so many different subjects. Stories are emotional and heart touching. Nice word play. Well written!!
This one is my favourite “ Replace
He asked me to edit His autobiography on his deathbed.
If there was a silver lining to Accepting his request, it was Replacing her name with mine.”
Title: Small is big (Volume 2) Author: @rafaadalvi Publisher: Self-published Pages: 112 Genre: Micro-Tales
“The wish monster feasted on a last remaining well, wondering why people had abandoned their wishes into the well and never perused them.” Writes @rafaadalal as first micro tale, in his recently released volume of “Small is big” which has 99 more beautifully put together micro-tales which explore Love, jealousy, pain, death, unrequited love, fear, adultery, humour, parenthood, sexuality, pushing boundaries, age, vulnerability, desires, insecurities, lust, childhood, submissiveness, guilt, doubt, anguish, acceptance, perception, stereotypes, science, responsibility, independence, greed, grief, loneliness, compromises and many more feelings under different headings set up in an alphabetical order. Sticking to the title, each tale succeeds in making you feel the emotion the author intends to make you feel. I began reading it a few hours ago and well, it was unputdownable. It is always difficult to showcase what you feel in a few words and rafaa is one of those who aced this art. The stories are way more relatable than expectations and touch upon every aspect you can possibly think of. This is the first time I’ve read something from him and I can’t wait to read what more he has in store.
Dalvi is not contended with spreading stinks in two volumes so he comes out with more one more volume of childish stories. I wonder what makes him think that he is qualified to write a story. Dont be misguided by friends chap, they will drag you to hell.
Book Name [with subtitle]: Small is Big (Volume 2) [A Collection of 100 more micro tales] Author Name: Rafaa Dalvi Format: Paperback No of Pages: 112 Publisher: Notion Press (1st Ed.- 2018) Blurb: The blurb portion of the book is written briefly and pointing the core of the book; in this way, it is capable enough to make the reader interested about this book instantly. So, it is good indeed. Cover: The front cover of the book is catchy and thoughtful I must say. It is perfectly justifying the title of the book. Simple but appreciable work done by Mohsin Dalvi. Title: The title (along with the subtitle) is attention seeking and actually significant to the contents of the book. The inner substances of the micro tales are big indeed, while they are small in length. Hence, I consider the title appropriate. Language: Language of the tales is lucid and simple enough to comprehend for any kind of reader. Plain and intriguingly written, all of them. Contents & My Verdict: This book contains 100 micro tales of varies genre and theme. Yes, all kind of segment and almost every type of potential are present in the tales of the book. Author has portrayed each different journey in every different tale in a highly significant way to the reader. On an instance, the reader will have to ponder about the inner meaning of the tales (well…in some of them are indeed need efforts to comprehend) and after realizing the in-depth justifying meaning of the tales, readers will be amazed (at least I am). There is amalgamation of themes in the micro tales and this made it a book for all booklovers. Thrill, romance, relationship, touching, eye opening, hard reality, sacrificial, witty, spooky- demand anything and it will be found there. Though all of the micro tales are portrayed touchingly in the canvass, still I’d like to mention the titles of some tales that personally triggered the chord of my heart and left me with heavy impact; such tales are- ‘Afraid’, ‘Believe’, ‘Boxed’, ‘Castle’, ‘Chance’, ‘Family’, ‘Farewell’, ‘Find’, ‘Forget’, ‘Gift’, ‘Guilty’, ‘Look’, ‘Memory Palace’, ‘Name’, ‘Nothing’, ‘Scatter’, & ‘Touch’ (especially Farewell, Gift, Name- these three have captured permanent place in my heart, because of the message they are portraying). “Name” is like a slap in the face of the society. It was actually a fast and pleasure reading for me and I enjoyed every bit of it. Recommendation: I’d like to recommend this book to everyone who loves to read micro tales and tries to enhance their taste in different kind of pleasure reading. This book has different types of tales to tell. Avid readers won’t get disappointed I can say. Thank you. Rating (Overall): 4/5 Stars.

REVIEW
Cover- Small is Big consist of a solid green color in its cover page with a mirror kept on the floor where Soldier Pawn placed before a mirror and the image is of a King pawn. This resembles a hidden meaning about the life and it's constituents. Though, it could have done a little better with the cover design.
Title- Title of the book is simple yet ravishing with the in-depth meaning of what it said. Meaning showed here is positive and hopeful.
Microtales- This book is a collection of Microtales which is dark and the reality. The author has written these tales with a title of a single name and put his thoughts in the simplest yet effective manner to show the dark truth about several issues, lifestyles, reality and people.
Language- An easy language with simple contexts yet powerful in the way to express all the views.
Length- It is a small book but with a deep meaning of what is says creates an impact. His thoughts and way of thinking and imagination is developed in a really amazing manner. Author has done a great work
It is a much read book not because it links with the issues we must be aware of but because each and every person's story has spoken here by the author.

Review: Micro tales have been trending these days due to the deep things that they convey in the limited amount of the words they use, striking an emotional chord with the readers in most tales. Writing micro tales like those that the readers will find in this particular book is really a tough task which the writer seems to be doing really well. The book is the second volume in the series Small is Big and contains about 100 micro tales. True to its name the tales in this book within small amount of words give out big meanings that touch the heart. The stories are nicely arranged alphabetically in order of the titles an exception to this will be the last tale ‘The End’ with which the readers end their beautiful journey reading this book. The titles of each story are one word long and give an idea to the readers about what they will be reading about further in the tale. The micro tales start from the first one being ‘Abandon’ and end up with the tales ‘Worth’ and ‘The end’. Throughout this journey the writer has written about emotions through stories ‘Afraid’, ‘Applaud’, ‘believe’, ‘guilty’, ‘lonely’, and of instances through tales ‘Again’, ‘allow’, ‘breaking stereotypes’ and more. Not just these but there are stories also about items that are close to us like ‘diary’, “’memory’ or mirror. The collection brings to us some pleasant, hard hitting, emotional, scary and socially relevant sides of us and the society. I really loved the book and salute the author for his insightful writing and the messages that he conveys in the limited words. Rating: 4.5 /5
With reading being classified as a dying art & the collapse of the average attention span of people worldwide, it comes as no surprise that the newest writing form i.e. microfiction or flash fiction has suddenly come in vogue & become immensely popular. It is normally assumed that these tales, most under 250 or even 100 words, take less time on the part of the writer. While they are eagerly lapped up by the readers as they need less time, the fact is that writing them takes an immense amount of skill, patience & concentration - as each is a story that has the most essential detail included, boiled down to their barest forms.
That's the specialty of Rafaa Dalvi's collection of 100 "more" micro tales "Small is Big - Volume 2". Each is beautifully interwoven & arranged in alphabetical order from various genres. So you could be reading a love story on one page, a thriller on the next, followed by a funny anecdote & so on. All unexpected, all stirring up your fancies & creating curiosity about what came before & after yet all complete in themselves.
The words are crisp, as they need to be, yet the language is absolutely simple. I must admit, some stories I had to read 2-3 times to understand, but I went ahhhh when I understood. My favorites, since being a mom is my prime duty these days, would have to be "Fed" and "Invention" - one's hilarious, the other eerie. Go read the book to find out which is which!
This is a swift read on a day that you are looking for a little something out of the ordinary. You can read all 100 at once, like I did (once I started I couldn't stop) or you could savor each tale & read a couple, or even 1 each day. The choice is yours, but read you must!

Short reads are fun most of the times. You quickly get into what is in the story and the story ends up soon. For me, the real test of a writer is in writing short stories. The simple reason behind it is that you have to try to grip your reader into the story as well as create a lasting impact within limited words so that your story can be called a good one. This book is a collection of micro tales which makes it a good read as a whole. I give it 4 stars out of 5 and here is my review.
The book has micro tales that talk about various situations of life. These tales are relatable and you can easily connect to what is happening in the story. Every tale will make you think and analyse some situation and you will be forced to give a thought on what is happening in the story. This made me think over the stories and I enjoyed reading it slowly rather than speeding up and reading the tales without going through the emotions in them.
The title of the book is great. I could even it with the tales as they are small in the word count but had big meanings and ideas behind them. The narration is great and had been gripping throughout. It did not make me feel anywhere that I should just turn the page and skip some part because it was boring. However, I did not like the cover. It somehow seemed to remind me of my Physics book of class VII that had chapters on a convex and concave mirror which gave me textbook vibes.
Overall, it is a good read if you enjoy reading micro tales. It is even great for those who do not like reading long stories.
This piece really contains 100 amazing tiny tales. It was a quick read. Few of the stories were soo good that it literally dissolved my heart into it. I was always fond of short lovely tales. And this book is really wow. One of my friend suggested me to read. And yes, it was worth it. It contains all genre of stories. Few of my personal favourites are, Familiar: The man on the bed with the smashed head looked a bit familiar. She looked at the vase in her hand and wondered what had happened.
Farewell: She bid farewell to her sister and left the graveyard, holding the hand of her brother-in-law. Identity theft was child’s play for twins.
This is a bit funny, Find: I saw a girl reading a book titled “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.” So I bought a telescope to find out which planet I was from.
Mirror:
“Mom!” “Mom!” “Mom!” The kids spoke into the mirror. Nothing happened. If only this didn’t just work with bloody mary.
Pain(This seriously broke my heart) : He takes pain for a living. Tonight he took ten extra punches because his son is turning nine this week and his heart is set on an Xbox 360.
This is really an amazing book. If you are fond of tiny tales. You must go for this book. It won't take much time to read, but is surely going to take your heart away.
Small is big has two microtale collections. I'm sure the first one is as amazing as this one! The cover depicts the title. The cover seems simple yet could have been much better. The title is really apt for this little amazing collection which leaves you wanting for more tales. This book is definitely a short read but has such a huge impact over your emotions. One minute reading a tale you could be happy other tale could make you sad. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and all the voids inside of us. What I really like is the way all the keen observation of the author has been put up into tales. All the things that constantly keep happening around us most of it has been put up into microtales. I really liked how a few microtales felt like poems. So many of these microtales will make you content-sad-questioning yourself. So many of these tales have more than two meanings to it. This book might be consisting of microtales but definitely more than 100 stories in it. The tales range from love to 21st century cliches and all the daily chores that take place. I really love how this book is a mixture of all the things we feel! I really enjoyed reading this book! This book is so relatable and deals with so many topics at once! You should definitely grab your copy right now tooo!
Small is big by Rafaa Dalvi is an interesting quick read, collection of 100 micro tales of various genres. Each and every tale has in depth meaning and it holds the reader's interest till end. All different themes are covered so it can be the book for all kind of readers. A reader can find a story in each and every tale covered and somewhere can relate to the current scenario of the society. If there is love in one tale, it's hatred in other. There are many beautiful and meaningful tales based on thrill, romance, relationship, dark secrets, reality of society and many more. It potrays many human emotions and shows the different faces of today's society. Some of the tales are light but some of them are eye opener and gives the solid message. Each and every tale has its own charm and meaning but I loved the few of them like Again, Castle, Familiar, Family, Free, Gift, Guilty, Look, Memory palace, Name, Pain, Sick, Sorry, Touch and Worst. Book cover is eye catching and justifying. Title of the book is perfect for the content of the book, even the sub titles are appropriate to the subjects. Language is lucid and can be read in one go. Overall it's an interesting read for all kind of readers which gives different flavors with each tale.
Book Review by LITEROMA PUBLISHING SERVICES :: "Small Is Big Vol 2" by Rafaa Dalvi
** Thanks to the author for sharing a PDF copy of the book for review.**
** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. **
"Small Is Big" is a series of micro tales by Rafaa Dalvi. The one reviewed here is the second volume which has been released recently. Well what to say about the new book? A collection of another 100 lovely micro tales (or should I say terribly micro tales?). It is like a perfect Diwali gift by the author. The tiny stories are titled very well, narrated in a simple style, leaving an everlasting impact on its readers. The slimness of the stories is the main attraction of the book. Some of my personal favourites are - Castle, Fed, Pain, Scatter and Worst.
The only aspect which could have been improved is the the tag line of the book : A collection of 100 more micro tales. The choice of word 'more' in the book cover sounds little light compared to the quality of its actual contents.
Overall Literoma rates it as 3.8*/5* and recommends for an 'on-travel' quick reading.
The best things of life comes in small package.... let me start withe the title which is very unique. Next comes the cover which has the pawn of the chess that has the least grade sees himself as the king in the mirror. this has a message for the reader that no matter what we are , each one of us have to be confident that we are the best.
Micro tales have always fascinated me. That’s the reason I picked up this book. Arranged alphabetically, the micro tales speak about everything from love to lust, from loneliness to togetherness , child abuse and the list goes on. Simple things that one encounters in life is very nicely depicted by the author in the form of these tiny tales. many a times it becomes difficult to read a complete novel and sometimes when the novel doesn't meet our expectations we are dissappointed. This book has definitely not left me empty handed as i got to learn quite a lot of things . Simple language, fine writing style and a good vocabulary, makes the book a nice tea time read that shows a mirror image of life in its true form. Some of my favorite are Look, disguise, gift, promise and sorry, care, diary, lovely day and worst . Enjoyed reading the book.
Small is big ~ volume 2 is a collection of 100 micro tales of varies genre which is arranged in alphabetical order basically.
Book consists of micro-tales on different topics such as love, hatred, memories, society, intimacy etc. Author has managed to portray each different theme in a very different anecdote in a highly remarkable way to the readers.
I loved the book because writing micro-tales are not a child’s play and you have to frolic with limited words and have to complete the tale in those very specific few lines.
The cover page of the book is catchy and justifies with the title. The language is simple and easy to understand. The best thing about the book is it can be finished in one sitting while you are traveling or just like on a lazy day when you are looking for some light read.
I’d like to recommend this book to everyone who loves to read micro tales and tries to intensify their taste with a light read.
My very own favorite from the collection is:
TUNNEL
The alcoholic woke up and saw a tunnel.
Thinking he was dead already, he stepped in front of a train.
Well I love them, especially because in a few words, phrases and sentences they create an aura of an entire storyline which is relatable almost every time.
Small is big Vol II is a book by Rafaa Dalvi which is a collection of 100 micro tales.
Rating:⭐⭐⭐🌠/🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (3.5/5)
This potpourri of tiny tales is mainly of the genres romance and thriller. The book is arranged in a lexicographical manner with the letters J, K,U, X, Y & Z not being in the run.
The ones which I really liked are: Abandon Allow Bully Castle Family Familiar Fat From dusk till dawn Free Guilty Look Memory Peace Survival of the fittest Touch
While "Abandon" tells about the wish monster, "Touch" talks about the perverted monsters we have in our society who takes advantage of a small child and take pleasure by destroying their innocence.
The book is a good read although at one or two places I didn't understand the inner meaning but overall it's a good endeavour to go through the micro tales once.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I have always been a fan of short stories, we as the readers are looking forward to the dynamics of tiny tales where we can get volumes just by reading lines. The book is exactly it. A collection of 100 micro tales. These stories speak volumes in a few words. The elements have been carefully chosen. Though these stories have a common element but picking up a random chapter and starting with it seems complete too so purchasing 1 book a reader can have the fun of 101 stories actually. The language is beautiful, simple, sharp an precise. Such well-written piece demands every reader’s time and is also worth it. I personally think the description and the cover are not doing much justice to the beautiful content inside. the stories cover way too many elements which are capable of connecting on different levels of perspectives of various readers, I am afraid the generic description is limiting the scope for the content. Hence I totally recommend all the readers to give the book a chance as it is beautifully constructed.
The cover is beautifully designed with the shade of green colour. There is a pawn which sees itself as the king in the mirror.
The title seems interesting. It is written in continuation of the first part of the Novel (Small is Big-Volume 1)
The blurb is interesting and creates an interest in the mind of the reader.
The book has 100 micro tales, which are so well written that when you will feel that The Last Story was better than the previous one, the author will prove you wrong. The stories just keep on getting better and better. ore breath-taking and better than the other.
Each and every micro tale has been written in a lucid language and simple manner.
I would like to recommend every reader to read a Few Stories and decide for themselves.
