Jacques Pierre Brissot, ou Brissot de Warville, est un homme politique français. Il est présenté comme le chef de file des Girondins pendant la Révolution française et fut guillotiné le 31 octobre 1793 à Paris.
Son rôle dans le déclenchement de la guerre contre l'Autriche et le débat politique qui en découla avec Robespierre eut des conséquences très importantes sur la lutte entre Girondins et Montagnards.
Il est le père de Anacharsis Brissot de Warville et le grand-père du peintre Félix Brissot de Warville.

Jacques Pierre Brissot, or Brissot de Warville, was a French politician. He was the leader of the Girondins during the French Revolution and was guillotined on October 31, 1793 in Paris.
His role in the start of the war against Austria and the political debate which ensued with Robespierre had very important consequences on the fight between Girondins and Montagnards.
He is the father of Anacharsis Brissot de Warville and the grandfather of the painter Félix Brissot de Warville.

As a whole, I loved this book. It is fascinating. I attribute that not only to the author, but also to the translator.
It seems as if the author spent the majority of his time in cities and among the Quakers of Philadelphia - to whom a disproportionate amount of space in the book is devoted.
His theories on settling a new land (or, rather, his take on whatever he was told on that subject) were absolutely ludicrous and made me laugh out loud.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, though. It's a great read if you have any interest whatsoever in history or in travel.
