This really is a comprehensive and thorough review of the available knowledge about hedgehogs, all species of hedgehogs, as it was in the mid 90s. Reeve gives an excellent introduction and then draws on his own extensive knowledge and research experience, along with that of multiple other experts, to set out a complete reference guide to the 16 plus species of hedgehogs that there are in the world. There are a few bits that are now out-of-date, which have been covered by Morris's Hedgehog (luckily the two have worked together for many years, which is rather helpful), but even these aspects haven't moved on all that much. This was well worth hunting down and will make an excellent addition to any hedgehog collection.

Two decades or so old now, but still the best and most thorough review available of the known material about hedgehogs. I hope for an updated edition or for someone else to take on this kind of project, but in the meantime, this is the best there is -- an it's pretty darn great.

This is the classic text on hedgehogs. Accessible, informative and interesting. Took me a while to get through the middle.
