"Watcher Divided" is right. For my tastes, there was way too much dividing going on in this book. First, the storyline is divided between the lead couple of this book and the lead couples in the previous three books in the series. They are major characters, and their lives are impacting the plot, the hero, his impulses, and so, so much. You definitely need to read the previous books to get what's going on. Secondly, the story is divided between women. It almost headed into love triangle territory. Missed it by a squeak. And yet woman #2 is still going to be a character going forward. Thirdly, the big rescue scene (triggers for rape), is divided in such a way that the hero of the story isn't even there.
For all that dividing, there were some things I liked about this book. The characters are fun and interesting, and the banter among the Watchers and their women is a highlight. It was enjoyable getting to know Phoenix and his background, and the dark powers smoldering inside of him. There was is also a brutal, redemptive edge to these books that can shock at times. And no spoilers here on just WHO the heroine is. It would make the beginning of the book much less interesting.
I will certainly keep reading this series because as much as I am annoyed by all the interactions from the previous couples, I still need to see who will captivate the rest of the Watchers.
By the way, if you are looking for a witch-themed book for a Halloween challenge, this one will fit the bill!
