The definitive guidebook for Adirondack canoeists. Over 40 sketch maps show connecting roads, put-in and take-out sites, and carry trails. A classic work. It is the model of the ideal guidebook: well organized, complete, lucidly written, and never so sharply focused that it neglect the amiable anecdote or bit of arcane lore that will lend special interest to the trip.
I have reread this wonderfully written book many times over decades. This is the antithesis to other guidebooks which can be dry and boring. The author's words are so exciting: the vivid descriptions make you feel alive. Magic. I was so enthraled with this book in the 1980s that later, I actually named my son "Jamieson" after the author!
