My lovely French teacher made me read this and it was not an enjoyable experience.

It's a short story for French learners. It is suitable for learners at levels A1-A2. Someone at higher levels may find it a bit simple but for beginners it's completely productive and interesting.
It just took about an hour to finish the book so you can read it in your spare time, in subway or even at work!
